The Yaapeet railway line (also known as the Rainbow railway line) is a Standard-gauge railway, standard-gauge railway line branching off of the Serviceton railway line. The line was opened in stages beginning from Dimboola railway station, Dimboola to Jeparit railway station, Jeparit on June 19, 1894 and reaching Yaapeet railway station, Yaapeet on June 25, 1914. Shire Of Yarriambiack
The Shire of Yarriambiack is a local government area of Victoria, Australia, located in the north-western part of the state. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 6,658, having fallen from 7,438 in 2008. It includes the towns of Hopetoun, Murtoa, Rupanyup and Warracknabeal. It was formed in 1995 from the amalgamation of the Shire of Warracknabeal, Shire of Karkarooc, and parts of the Shire of Dunmunkle and Shire of Wimmera. The Shire is governed and administered by the Yarriambiack Shire Council; its seat of local government and administrative centre is located at the council headquarters in Warracknabeal, it also has service centres located in Hopetoun and Rupanyup. Horsham () is a regional city in the Wimmera region of western Victoria, Australia. Located on a bend in the Wimmera River, Horsham is approximately northwest of the state capital Melbourne. As of the 2021 Census, Horsham had a population of 20,429. It is the most populous city in Wimmera, and the main administrative centre for the Rural City of Horsham local government area. It is the eleventh largest city in Victoria after Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Wodonga, Mildura, Shepparton, Warrnambool, Traralgon, and Wangaratta. Rainbow, Victoria
Rainbow is a town in the Shire of Hindmarsh in northwest Victoria, Australia, from Melbourne. The nearest large towns are Warracknabeal, Dimboola and Nhill, all to the south. At the , Rainbow had a population of 683. History In 1899 the railway line was extended from Jeparit to a projected town site, Rainbow Rise, named after a sand lunette covered with wildflowers in the shape of a rainbow. A post office opened on 2 July 1900 and town blocks in Rainbow were sold in October 1900. By 1910 the township was referred to as the Metropolis of the Mallee. Robert Riby owned and operated the first newspaper in Rainbow. He married Mary Anne Palethorp. Rainbow was well known for its wheat. Silos still stand there and are visible from kilometres away. Mildura is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria and sits within the Northern Victoria electorate. It is a 37,529 km2 rural electorate in the far-north-west of the state, encompassing the regional towns of Hopetoun, Mildura, Ouyen, Red Cliffs and Robinvale. Wimmera
The Wimmera is a region of the Australian state of Victoria. The district is located within parts of the Loddon Mallee and the Grampians regions; and covers the dryland farming area south of the range of Mallee scrub, east of the South Australia border and north of the Great Dividing Range. It can also be defined as the land within the social catchment of Horsham, its main settlement. Most of the Wimmera is very flat, with only the Grampians and Mount Arapiles rising above vast plains and the low plateaux that form the Great Divide in this part of Victoria. The Grampians are very rugged and tilted, with many sheer sandstone cliffs on their eastern sides, but gentle slopes on the west. Lake Albacutya
Lake Albacutya ( Wergaia: ''Ngelbakutya'') is an ephemeral lake located in Albacutya within the Wimmera region of Victoria, Australia. It is one of a series of terminal lakes on the Wimmera River, which form the largest land-locked drainage system in Victoria. Lake Albacutya is designated as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. Location and features On the occasions that there is an overflow from Lake Hindmarsh to the south, water enters Outlet Creek, ( Wergaia: ''Krumelak'') which then feeds Lake Albacutya. When full, Lake Albacutya covers , is deep, and holds around of water. The lake generally fills and empties on a 20-year cycle, the longest dry period on record being 27 years.
