Y Byd Ar Bedwar
' ( Welsh for ''The World on Four'') is a Welsh-language current affairs television programme, which has broadcast on S4C since the channel was launched in November 1982. It is produced by ITV Cymru Wales. The programme's reporters have brought stories from the four corners of the world to Welsh screens. In the 1980s, long-serving reporter Tweli Griffiths secured the first interview with Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi. Reports also covered the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Chernobyl disaster and the Persian Gulf war. Current Affairs (news Format)
Current affairs is a genre of broadcast journalism in which major news stories are discussed at length in a timely manner. This differs from regular News broadcasting, news broadcasts that place emphasis on news reports presented for simple presentation as soon as possible, often with a minimum of analysis. It is also different from the news magazine show format in that events are discussed immediately. S4C Original Programming
S4C (, ''Sianel Pedwar Cymru'', meaning ''Channel Four Wales'') is a Welsh language free-to-air Public service broadcasting in the United Kingdom, public broadcast television channel. Launched on 1 November 1982, it was the first television channel to be aimed specifically at a Welsh-speaking audience. S4C's headquarters are based in Carmarthen, at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David's creative and digital centre, Yr Egin. It also has regional offices in Caernarfon and Cardiff. As of 2024, S4C had an average of 118 employees. S4C is the fourth-oldest terrestrial television channel in Wales after BBC One Wales, BBC One, ITV Cymru Wales, ITV and BBC Two Wales, BBC Two. Menna Richards
Menna Richards OBE was the Controller of BBC Cymru Wales from February 2000 to February 2011. Biography Born in Maesteg, Bridgend County Borough, Wales, Richards was educated at the town's Grammar School, and later at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Well known for her contribution to broadcasting, her career began with BBC Wales as a broadcast journalist in 1976 and later as a reporter and producer for HTV Wales in the current affairs department in 1983, including the Welsh language current affairs series, ''Y Byd ar Bedwar''. She rose to become managing director of HTV Wales in 1997, before the company was taken over by United News & Media. Richards rejoined BBC Wales as a Controller in February 2000 and retired in February 2011. Betsan Powys
Betsan Powys (born 1965), is a Welsh journalist and former Editor of Programmes for BBC Radio Cymru. Biography Powys was born in Cardiff. A native Welsh speaker after being educated at Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari, Powys joined BBC Wales as a News Trainee in 1989, before joining the newsroom in Cardiff as a bilingual, bi-media reporter. Moving to Current Affairs in 1994 she reported undercover, where one investigation required her to pose as one half of a swinging couple in the "Garden of Eden", a West Wales brothel. Lowri Gwilym
Lowri Gwilym (born Lowri Williams; 14 October 1954 – 21 July 2010) was a Welsh television and radio producer. She worked for BBC Wales and the Welsh-language channel S4C. Early life Gwilym was born Lowri Williams on 14 October 1954 in Aberystwyth. Her parents were Daisy and David Gwyn Williams, a writer and academic. She grew up in Turkey and Libya, where her father was an English professor. When she was 18, she changed her surname from Williams to the Welsh form, Gwilym. She studied the Welsh language at Bangor University and completed a Master of Letters at the University of Oxford. She then lectured at the University of Bologna for two years.
