Xudabao Nuclear Power Plant
The Xudabao Nuclear Power Plant, also known as Xudapu, is a nuclear power station under construction in Xudabao Village, Haibin County, Xingcheng, Huludao, on the coast of Liaoning province, in northeast China. It was initially planned to have six 1000-MW AP1000 or CAP1000 light water reactors, but the first two to start construction were changed to VVER-1200s. China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) owns 70% of the project, along with Datang International Power Generation Company (20%), and State Development and Investment Corporation (10%). China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPEC) is the general contractor for the project; the initial version with six AP1000s was expected to cost around CN¥110 billion (US$16 billion) back in 2016. Xingcheng
Xingcheng (), former name Ningyuan (), is a county-level city under the administration of Huludao, in southwest Liaoning province, China, with a population of approximately 220,000 urban inhabitants, and is located on the Liaodong Bay, i.e. the northern coast of the Bohai Sea. The area is steeped in history, and contains one of the best preserved Ming Dynasty towns in China, as well as functioning as a laidback summer resort. Historical Importance Xingcheng has a long and distinguished history, and was established as a county as far back as the Liao Dynasty in CE 990. After being dissolved by the Yuan, it was resurrected during the Ming Dynasty under the name Ningyuan, and gained strategic importance as the first defensive outpost outside the Great Wall. VVER
The water-water energetic reactor (WWER), or VVER (from ) is a series of pressurized water reactor designs originally developed in the Soviet Union, and now Russia, by OKB Gidropress. The idea of such a reactor was proposed at the Kurchatov Institute by Savely Moiseevich Feinberg. VVER were originally developed before the 1970s, and have been continually updated. They were one of the initial reactors developed by the USSR, the other being the infamous RBMK. As a result, the name VVER is associated with a wide variety of reactor designs spanning from generation I reactors to modern generation III+ reactor designs.
