The Xikeng Formation is located in Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province, and contains alternating beds of purplish red, grayish green and yellow green sandy and muddy rocks. A geological formation, or simply formation, is a body of rock having a consistent set of physical characteristics (lithology) that distinguishes it from adjacent bodies of rock, and which occupies a particular position in the layers of rock exposed in a geographical region (the stratigraphic column). It is the fundamental unit of lithostratigraphy, the study of strata or rock layers. A formation must be large enough that it can be mapped at the surface or traced in the subsurface. Siltstone
Siltstone, also known as aleurolite, is a clastic sedimentary rock that is composed mostly of silt. Sandstone
Sandstone is a clastic sedimentary rock composed mainly of sand-sized (0.0625 to 2 mm) silicate grains. Sandstones comprise about 20–25% of all sedimentary rocks. Baishui, Jishui County
Baishui (白水镇, meaning ''white water'') is a town in Jishui County, Ji'an Municipality, Jiangxi. It has 11,000 residents in an area of . History Before Liberation, the town was known as Baishui Township (). In 1951 part of its territory was used to form the new township of Dongying (东营, meaning ''east camp''). Seven years later, as the 2nd 5-year plan (AKA Great Leap Forward) got underway, the two territories were recombined as Dongying.
