''Xestogaster'' is a South American genus of broad-nosed weevils in the family Curculionidae. Taxonomy The genus was described by Sir Guy A. K. Marshall in 1922 (p. 221). Exorides
''Exorides'' is a genus of broad-nosed weevils in the family Curculionidae, tribe Eustylini, distributed in northern South America. Taxonomy ''Exorides'' was described for the first time by Francis P. Pascoe in 1881 (p. 43). A discussion about the genus along with a key to most species was published by Guy A. K. Marshall in 1922. It belongs to the so-called "''Compsus'' genus complex". Description Species of the genus ''Exorides'' are easily confused with members of the genus ''Compsus'', as well as with members of the genus '' Xestogaster''. A "provisional" diagnosis for ''Exorides'' is offered by Marshall: The scale coverage in ''Exorides'' is highly variable, from absent to dense, including iridescent or metallic colorations. Some species are able to produce waxy secretions and filaments, but this is not common across the genus. Sir Guy Anstruther Knox Marshall FRS (20 December 1871 in Amritsar, Punjab – 8 April 1959 in London), was an Indian-born British entomologist. The Entiminae are a large subfamily in the weevil family Curculionidae, containing most of the short-nosed weevils, including such genera as '' Entimus'', '' Otiorhynchus'', '' Phyllobius'', '' Sitona'', and '' Pachyrrhynchus''. Curculionidae
The Curculionidae are a family of weevils, commonly called snout beetles or true weevils. They are one of the largest animal families, with 6,800 genera and 83,000 species described worldwide. They are the sister group to the family Brentidae. They include the bark beetles as the subfamily Scolytinae, which are modified in shape in accordance with their wood-boring lifestyle. They do not much resemble other weevils, so they were traditionally considered a distinct family, Scolytidae. The family also includes the ambrosia beetles, of which the present-day subfamily Platypodinae was formerly considered the distinct family Platypodidae.
