Xagħra United F.C.
Xagħra United F.C. is a football club from the small village of Xagħra in Gozo, Malta. The club is one of the oldest clubs in the Maltese Islands since it was founded in 1936 and is named after the village. Xagħra United are currently playing in the Gozo Football League Second Division. Holders of 6 First Division Titles and 8 Second Division Titles. Early history It can be said that the establishment of the Boy Scout Movement in Xagħra in 1933 was the prelude to an activity in a number of cultural fields. Among these is the founding of the Xagħra Band Club in 1934. Two years later, in 1936, Xagħra saw the birth of their first football team. The committee within the Boy Scout Movement, which was in charge of the football team, was set up in February/March 1936. The team was named Xagħra Scouts Team with the first coach being Ġużeppi Sultana. Gozo
Gozo (, ), Maltese: ''Għawdex'' () and in antiquity known as Gaulos ( xpu, 𐤂𐤅𐤋, ; grc, Γαῦλος, Gaúlos), is an island in the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. Gozo Football League First Division
The Gozitan First Division, known for sponsorship reasons as the BOV GFL First Division, is the top division of the Gozo Football League, the league competition for men's football clubs in Gozo. The GFL First Division is played on three rounds where each team plays each other once, with a total of 21 games played in total by each team, usually held between the months of September and April. Teams are ranked by total points, then goal difference, and then goals scored. At the end of each season, the club with the most points is crowned league champion, while the bottom club is relegated to the Second Division. A relegation play-off match takes place between the seventh-placed team in the First Division and the second-placed team in the Second Division, with the winner securing a place in the following season's First Division. Xagħra
Xagħra ( mt, Ix-Xagħra) is an administrative unit of Malta, on the island of Gozo. It is one of the earliest inhabited parts of Gozo, being home to the Ġgantija megalithic temples which date back to the year 3600BC and the Xagħra Stone Circle. Natural underground features such as Xerri's Grotto and Ninu's Cave can be found in this town, along with Calypso's Cave which overlooks the red sandy beach of Ramla. It is the second largest town in Gozo, having a population of 5,161 inhabitants according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, and is situated to the North-East of the Gozo capital Victoria. Gozo Football League Second Division
The Gozo Football League Second Division, known as BOV GFL Second Division for sponsorship reasons, is the second and lowest level in the Gozo Football League. The league was first competed in 1948. The Second Division is played in the same manner as the First Division: based on three rounds, each club plays three games against every other team for a total of 15 games. The season is usually held between September and April, and at the end of the season, the champion is automatically promoted to next season's First Division season and replaces the bottom-placed club from the First Division. The second-placed club plays a promotion and relegation play-off against the seventh-placed team in the First Division, with the winner earning the right to play in the top tier the following season. Żebbuġ ( mt, Ħaż-Żebbuġ) , also known by its title Città Rohan, is a city in the Northern Region of Malta. It is one of the oldest towns in the country, and its population is 11,074 as of June 2021. History and origins The parish Church is dedicated to Philip of Agira and the feast is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of June, although the actual feast day falls on the 12th day of May. The name of the town literally means "olives" in Maltese; it derives from the large olive groves that stood in and around the current location of the church and the centre of the town. The town was bestowed with the title of ''Città Rohan'' by Emmanuel de Rohan-Polduc, the Grand Master of the Order of St. John on 21 June 1777. Maltese First Division
The Maltese Challenge League (referred to as the BOV Challenge League for sponsorship reasons) is the second-highest division in Maltese football, behind the Maltese Premier League. The First Division was the precursor of the present Premier League until the latter was revamped for the 1980–81 season with the Maltese Challenge League instituted for the 2020–21 season following the premature end of the previous season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Independence Cup was a football competition that took place in Gozo, Malta.
