XTV (Belize)
XTV, formerly known as Krem Television is a Belizean television station established in 2004 and serving Belize City. Its manager is KREM Radio alumnus Evan "Mose" Hyde and it is part of KREMANDALA Ltd. Establishment Since the late 1990s Kremandala Ltd., already holding portions of the newspaper and radio market in Belize, applied for a television license. The feud over the license dragged on for months; established media houses claimed Krem chairman Evan X Hyde was trying to corner the media market in Belize. Eventually KREM was granted license, and test broadcasts started in 2002. Test broadcasts Test broadcasts were conducted in 2002 and 2003, on CBC Channel 3 in Belize City. Among the programs shown were live audio feeds of KREM FM programs, old semi-pro basketball games featuring company team the Kremandala Raiders and documentaries. Belizean Kriol Language
Belizean Creole (, ) is an English-based creole language spoken by the Belizean Creole people. It is closely related to Moskitian Creole, San Andrés-Providencia Creole, and Jamaican Patois. Belizean Creole is a contact language that developed and grew between 1650 and 1930, initially as a result of the slave trade. Belizean Creole, like many Creole languages, first started as a pidgin. It was a way for people of other backgrounds and languages, in this case slaves and English colonisers within the logging industry, to communicate with each other. Over generations the language developed into a creole, being a language used as some people's mother tongue. Belizean Creoles are people of Afro-European origin. WUB Morning Vibes (Wake Up Belize) is a popular radio / TV show in Belize aired by Krem Television. It is a daily morning call-in talk show covering local issues and current affairs. The poet Kalilah Enriquez is a co-host on the show, along with KREM TV’s general manager, Evan "Mose" Hyde. The show is frequently a vehicle for public statements on controversial subjects. For example, in April 2007 the show read a letter by councilor Wil Galvez that was highly critical of other Punta Gorda Town Councilors, causing a political storm. The Kremandala Show
The Kremandala Show is a Belizean political commentary talk show airing on Krem Radio and Krem Television. It premiered in 1994 on radio and 2005 on television and was hosted by KREM founder Evan X Hyde. Format Hyde is joined weekly by four panelists to discuss current issues in Belize. The four official panelists as of January 2008 are Bill Lindo, Cedric Flowers, Henry Gordon and Rufus X. After three rounds of often furious debate and discussion, occasionally punctuated by questions from moderator Hyde, the last segment of the show, called "The Parting Shot", presents the final opportunity for panelists to share their final thoughts for the week. Evan X Hyde
Evan Anthony Hyde (better known as Evan X Hyde; born 30 April 1947) is a Belizean writer, journalist, media executive and former politician. He publishes and writes for the nation's largest newspaper, ''Amandala'', and oversees its subsidiaries, KREM Radio (formed in 1989) and XTV (formerly known as KREM Television) (formed in 2004). Between 1969 and 1974, he headed the United Black Association for Development (UBAD), which demanded better conditions for Belize's black people and emphasized unity. Ultra high frequency (UHF) is the ITU designation for radio frequencies in the range between 300 megahertz (MHz) and 3 gigahertz (GHz), also known as the decimetre band as the wavelengths range from one meter to one tenth of a meter (one decimetre). ''Amandala'' is a Belizean tabloid newspaper. Published twice weekly, it is Belize's largest newspaper. ''Amandala'' was established in 1969 as the print organ of the now-defunct United Black Association for Development (UBAD), but has been politically independent since the mid-1970s. Its offices are located at 3304 Partridge Street in Belize City. As of 2017, it has published over 3000 issues.
