XI SS Army Corps
The XI SS Corps (German: ''XI. SS-Armeekorps'' later ''XI. SS-Panzerkorps'') was a ''Waffen-SS'' corps created on July 24, 1944 in southern Poland on the basis of the remains of the headquarters of the defeated V Army Corps and employed on the Eastern Front in 1944-1945 during World War II. There were no SS units in the corps, as the SS prefix in the name is explained only by the fact that the commander, Matthias Kleinheisterkamp, was not a general of the ''Wehrmacht'', but an ''SS-Obergruppenführer''. On February 1, 1945 the corps was transformed into the XI SS Panzer Corps. The (; ) was the military branch, combat branch of the Nazi Party's paramilitary ''Schutzstaffel'' (SS) organisation. Its formations included men from Nazi Germany, along with Waffen-SS foreign volunteers and conscripts, volunteers and conscripts from both German-occupied Europe and unoccupied lands. The 9th Army () was a World War II German field army. It was activated on 15 May 1940 with General Johannes Blaskowitz in command. History 1940 The 9th Army first saw service along the Siegfried Line during its involvement in the invasion of France. The Panzergrenadier Division Kurmark, sometimes also referred to as Panzer Division Kurmark, was a armoured formation of the German Army during World War II. It was raised in January 1945 as part of the preparation for the Battle of Berlin. It was named after the Kurmark region of Brandenburg. The division was formed at Frankfurt on the Oder in January 1945 from elements of the Grossdeutschland Panzer Grenadier Ersatz Brigade. It was an understrength unit. The unit did not receive enough motorized transport, so one of its Panzergrenadier battalions used bicycles and rode horses. The 712th Infantry Division () was a German Army Infantry division in World War II. Operational history The 712th Infantry Division was raised in early 1941 as part of the 15th wave of Wehrmacht forces, and was moved to occupied France along the demarcation line with Vichy France. In the spring of 1942, it was moved to the Low Countries, where it occupied the area around Zeebrugge. From August/September 1942 until September 1944 the division was part of the 89th Army Corps, a part of Army Group B's 15th Army, in order to counter the Allied invasion of France; the 89th Corps was stationed along the Belgian coast at the time in order to prevent further amphibious assaults. The 25th Infantry Division () was a military unit of the German Wehrmacht. It was later reclassified to 25th Motorized Infantry Division (), and in June 1943 to the 25th Panzergrenadier Division (). The 25th Panzergrenadier Division fought in the central sector of the Eastern front from June 1943 to July 1944. It was destroyed in the encirclement east of Minsk and reformed in October 1944. After the 78th Assault Division was destroyed near Minsk in July 1944, the 78th Volksgrenadier Division (; formerly 543rd Volksgrenadier Division ()) was created. The Battle of Halbe (, Battle of the Halbe Pocket; , Halbe pocket) was a battle lasting from April 24 – May 1, 1945 in which the German Ninth Army—under the command of General Theodor Busse—was destroyed as a fighting force by the Red Army during the Battle of Berlin.
