Rafael Delgado, former known as San Juan del Rio, is a municipality located in the mountainous central zone of the Mexican state of Veracruz, about 140 km from the state capital Xalapa. It has an area of . In 1831, the village of San Juan del Río constituted a municipality. By decree, on November 5, 1932, the municipality became known as Rafael Delgado, in honor of the author, a native of nearby Córdoba. Córdoba, known officially as Heroica Córdoba, is a city and the seat of the municipality of the same name in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It was founded in 1618. Orizaba () is a city and municipality in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located 20 km west of its sister city Córdoba, and is adjacent to Río Blanco and Ixtaczoquitlán, on Federal Highways 180 and 190. The city had a 2005 census population of 117,273 and is almost coextensive with its small municipality, with only a few small areas outside the city.
