XEFC-AM
XHFCY-FM is a radio station in Mérida, Yucatán, in Mexico, with transmitter at San Pedro Nohpat. Broadcasting on 105.9 FM, XHFCY is owned by Valanci Media Group and carries a contemporary music format known as Super Stereo. History Rafael Rivas Franco and Julio Molina Font put XEFC-AM 1050 on air July 26, 1930. Rivas gave XEFC its call sign in honor of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, a former governor of the state who had been executed in 1924. Font sold his stake in the station, and the concession, to Rivas in 1944. XEFC was the first station in what came to be known as Organización Radio Peninsular, which later expanded to include additional Mérida and Yucatán radio stations and is now known as Grupo Rivas. XEFC later moved to 1330 AM in the 1950s and slid to 1090 kHz in the early 2000s. On July 1, 2010, XHFCY-FM 105.9 signed on as part of the national plan to move most AM radio stations to FM. Mérida, Yucatán
Mérida (, ) is the capital of the List of states of Mexico, Mexican state of Yucatán, and the largest city in southeastern Mexico. XHYW-FM
XHYW-FM is a radio station on 98.9 FM in San Pedro Nohpat, Yucatán, Mexico, in the Mérida metropolitan area. It is owned by Valanci Media Group and carries a grupera format known as Radio Mexicana. History Amira del Pilar Romero Iriondo obtained the concession for XEYW-AM 1270, located in Uman, Yucatán, on November 6, 1978. The 2.5 kW station was sold to Tropiradio in 1983. Tropiradio moved it to Mérida on 760 kHz. XEYW authorized to move to FM in 2011. Until 2016, it carried the grupera format from Grupo Siete (La Jefa and later La Única). In early 2016, when this was renamed Bengala, XHYW broke off. As part of its 2017 concession renewal, XHYW-FM was slated to move to 98.9 MHz, in order to clear 106-108 MHz as much as possible for community and indigenous radio stations. Felipe Carrillo Puerto
Felipe Santiago Carrillo Puerto (8 November 1874 – 3 January 1924) was a Mexican journalist, politician and revolutionary who served as the governor of Yucatán from 1922 until his assassination in 1924. He became known for his efforts at reconciliation between the Yucatec Maya and the Mexican government after the Caste War. Prerevolution and personal life Carrillo Puerto was born in the town of Motul, Yucatán, 45 km northeast of Mérida, and was of partly indigenous Maya background; he was rumored to be a descendant of the Nachi Cocom dynasty of Mayapan. His parents were the merchant Justiniano Carrillo Pasos and his wife Adelaide Puerto Solis. He was one of fourteen children, thirteen of whom lived into adulthood.
