Wyoming Highway 414 (WYO 414) is a State highway (US), state highway in eastern Uinta County, Wyoming, Uinta and extreme southwestern Sweetwater County, Wyoming, Sweetwater counties in the U.S. state of Wyoming. Although primarily a north–south highway, WYO 414 travels in a more east–west orientation near its southern end. It connects Utah State Route 43 (UT-43) at the Utah state line, southeast of McKinnon, Wyoming, McKinnon with Interstate 80 in Wyoming, Interstate 80 (I-80) and Wyoming Highway 412, WYO 412, at a point northwest of Lyman, Wyoming, Lyman. Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area
Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is a United States national recreation area in Wyoming and Utah. Its centerpiece is the long Flaming Gorge Reservoir. History The area was given the name "Flaming Gorge" by John Wesley Powell during his 1869 expedition down the Green River, due to the spectacular, gorgeous red sandstone cliffs that surround this part of the river. The Flaming Gorge reservoir was created by the 1964 construction of the Flaming Gorge Dam across the Green River. The area was established as a National Recreation Area by an act of Congress on October 1, 1968. Uses Power Flaming Gorge Dam is used to generate hydroelectric power. Three turbines and generators at the base of the dam have the capacity to produce 50,650 kilowatts of electrical power each. Interstate 80 (I-80) is a part of the Interstate Highway System that runs from San Francisco, California, to Teaneck, New Jersey. In Wyoming, the Interstate Highway runs from the Utah state line near Evanston east to the Nebraska state line in Pine Bluffs. I-80 connects Cheyenne, Wyoming's capital and largest city, with several smaller cities along the southern tier of Wyoming, including Evanston, Green River, Rock Springs, Rawlins, and Laramie. Fort Bridger is a census-designated place (CDP) in eastern Uinta County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 354 at the 2020 census. The community takes its name from the eponymous Fort Bridger, established in 1842, which is located within the boundaries of the CDP. History Fort Bridger was established in 1843 by Jim Bridger and Louis Vasquez. It served as a trading post for those who were traveling westward along the Oregon Trail, as well as LDS Pioneers, the Pony Express, the Lincoln Highway, and the transcontinental railroad. The fort was also commonly used to trade with the local Native Americans. The fort was not very glamorous, it was even a disappointment to most travelers.
