Wyoming Governor
The governor of Wyoming is the head of government of Wyoming, and the commander-in-chief of the Wyoming's military department (National Guard). The gubernatorial term has been set at four years since statehood. Originally, a governor could be elected any number of times. Since a 1992 referendum, governors have been limited to eight years in office during any 16-year period—effectively limiting them to two consecutive terms. Mark Gordon
Mark Gordon (born March 14, 1957) is an American politician serving as the 33rd governor of Wyoming since January 7, 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as state treasurer; then-governor Matt Mead appointed him to that position on October 26, 2012, to fill the vacancy created by the death of Joseph Meyer. Early life and education Gordon was born in New York City, the son of Catherine (née Andrews) and Crawford Gordon. Gordon’s father grew up on Drumlin Farm, in Lincoln, Massachusetts. His parents married on October 27, 1945, at the First Unitarian Church of Kennebunk, Maine, before settling at their ranch in Kaycee, Wyoming, in 1947. John Wesley Hoyt
John Wesley Hoyt (October 13, 1831 – May 23, 1912) was an American politician and educator. Hoyt was the third Governor of Wyoming Territory. Early life Hoyt was born in Worthington, Ohio, and graduated from the Ohio Wesleyan University in 1849. He attended the Cincinnati Law School and Ohio Medical College before attaining his medical degree from the Eclectic Medical Institute in Ohio in 1853. Career In 1857, Hoyt moved to Wisconsin and became active in politics. While in Wisconsin, he served as manager of the Wisconsin State Agricultural Society and was editor for the ''Wisconsin Farmer and Northern Cultivator''. He served as United States and Wisconsin commissioner to the 1862 International Exhibition in London and again at the 1867 Exposition Universelle in Paris. Wyoming Republican Party
The Wyoming Republican Party is the affiliate of the Republican Party in Wyoming. It is currently the dominant party in the state, and is one of the strongest affiliates of the national Republican Party. The party currently controls Wyoming's at-large U.S. House seat, both U.S. Senate seats, the governorship, and has nearly unanimous positions in both houses of the state legislature. In 2021, the Wyoming Republican Party voted to stop recognizing Liz Cheney as a Republican. Cheney had criticized former president Donald Trump for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results after he lost the election and inciting a pro-Trump mob to assault the U.S. Capitol. 1890–91 United States Senate Elections
The 1890–91 United States Senate elections were held on various dates in various states. As these U.S. Senate elections were prior to the ratification of the Seventeenth Amendment in 1913, senators were chosen by state legislatures. Senators were elected over a wide range of time throughout 1890 and 1891, and a seat may have been filled months late or remained vacant due to legislative deadlock. Thomas Moonlight (September 30, 1833February 7, 1899) was an American politician and soldier. Moonlight served as Governor of Wyoming Territory from 1887 to 1889. Birth Moonlight was born in Forfarshire, Scotland. He was baptized on 30 September 1833 in St Vigeans, Angus, Scotland with birth record number 319/0040 0169. His family can be traced in Scotland back to the 1600s, and to Archibald Moonlight and his wife Margaret Elspet Andersone. Moonlight was one of 10 children. Moonlight's birth date is frequently quoted as 10 November 1833 (including on his grave marker), but his baptism records exist for 30 September 1833.
