Wrik Mead
Wrik Mead (born 1962) is an artist/filmmaker from Toronto, Ontario and teaches at OCAD University. He studied Film and Photography at the Ontario College of Art, where he received his Honours AOCA. In 2004, he continued his studies at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he received his MA Fine Arts. He works in a variety of mediums including film, video, screen printing and photography. The themes in his work explore issues around queer-identity, desire, the body and fairy-tale allegory. Animation is also a focus in his time-based works, experimenting with various forms of frame by frame manipulation. Toronto's film and video collective Pleasure Dome presented a retrospective of his work in 1997 that traveled across the country and in 2006 his distributor, CFMDC, released a compilation of his work as part of the Artists' Spotlight Series. Goldsmiths, University of London, officially the Goldsmiths' College, is a constituent research university of the University of London in England. PayneShurvell
PayneShurvell is a contemporary art gallery based in William Road in Kings Cross, London. It shows the work of Andrew Curtis, Aidan McNeill, Wrik Mead, Margaret Harrison, Anka Dabrowska and other internationally-recognised artists. The policy of the gallery is to bridge the gap between an artist-run space and a commercial gallery, showcasing emerging UK and international artists and featuring work from all media. Many of the artists shown have international reputations but are little known in the United Kingdom. PayneShurvell is owned and run by artist and curator James Payne who has shown work at Transition Gallery and is also a writer for ''Garageland'' and '' Arty'' and a columnist for The Huffington Post and Joanne Shurvell who was previously head of communications for the Institute of Contemporary Arts.
