Worsley (ward)
Worsley and Westwood Park (ward) is an electoral ward of Salford, England. It is represented in Westminster by Barbara Keeley MP for Worsley and Eccles South. A profile of the ward conducted by Salford City Council in 2014 recorded a population of 10,090. Formerly named Worsley, following extensive boundary changes to wards across the City of Salford, the ward was expanded to include Westwood Park, and the ward was renamed Worsley and Westwood Park. These new boundaries were first contested on 6 May 2021 in all-out elections, requiring all three ward councillors to stand for re-election. Electoral Ward
A ward is a local authority area, typically used for electoral purposes. In some countries, wards are usually named after neighbourhoods, thoroughfares, parishes, landmarks, geographical features and in some cases historical figures connected to the area (e.g. William Morris Ward in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, England). It is common in the United States for wards to simply be numbered. Origins The word "ward", for an electoral subdivision, appears to have originated in the Wards of the City of London, where gatherings for each ward known as "wardmotes" have taken place since the 12th century. Paul Dennett
Paul Dennett is a British politician serving as Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester since 2021. A member of the Labour Party, he has served as Mayor of Salford since 2016. Early life Dennett was born in Warrington and grew up working class. He is openly gay. Dennett's father worked for a power station and was an active trade unionist and his mother was a housewife and house cleaner. His parents would later run The Engine Pub in Prescot, Merseyside. He attended Park Road Primary School and Great Sankey High School, before working in customer services at a BT call centre. He received a BA in International Business from the University of Ulster, an MSc in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from the Manchester Business School, and an MRES in Social Sciences from Manchester Metropolitan University. Chris Clarkson (politician)
Christopher Mark Clarkson (born 12 November 1982) is a British Conservative Party politician who was Member of Parliament (MP) for Heywood & Middleton from 2019 to 2024. Prior to entering Parliament, Clarkson was a Salford City Councillor for Worsley. Early life and career Chris Clarkson was born on 12 November 1982 to Terence Clarkson and Alison Clarkson (''née'' Parker) in Wegberg, West Germany. He grew up in Blackburn, Lancashire where he attended St Wilfrid's Church of England High School, before studying law at Dundee University. He then worked for IRIS Legal as a corporate development manager, and was a consultant at Virgin from 2010 to 2019. Clarkson is a member of the Countryside Alliance and a supporter of Brexit. Barbara Keeley
Barbara Mary Keeley, Baroness Keeley (born 26 March 1952), is a British Labour Party politician. She served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Worsley and Eccles South, previously Worsley, from 2005 to 2024, and has been a member of the House of Lords since 2024. A member of the Labour Party, she served as Shadow Minister for Music and Tourism from 2023 to 2024. She previously served as Deputy Leader of the House of Commons from 2009 to 2010 and served in Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet as Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Social Care from 2016 to 2020.
