World Policy Journal
''World Policy Journal'' was the flagship publication of the World Policy Institute, published by Duke University Press. Focusing on international relations, the publication provided left-wing, non-United States-centric perspectives to world issues. It contained primarily policy essays but also book reviews, interviews, and historical essays. Most articles were commissioned. The last print issue of the journal was published in Winter 2017. Notable articles and authors In March 2000, the Congressional Research Service (CRS) ranked the journal as one of the top foreign policy publications in the United States, along with ''Foreign Affairs'' and ''Foreign Policy'', because of the quality and expert opinion of pieces written on the US global role for the post-Cold War era. Ahmed Rashid (Urdu:; born 1948 in Rawalpindi) is a Pakistani journalist and best-selling foreign policy author of several books about Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Central Asia. Life and career Rashid was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He attended Malvern College, England, Government College Lahore, and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge at Cambridge University in the late 1960s. After graduating, Rashid spent ten years in the hills of Balochistan, attempting to organise an uprising against the Pakistani military dictatorships of Ayub Khan and Yahya Khan. Yuen-Ying Chan
Yuen-Ying Chan (, also known as Ying Chan) is a Hong Kong–based journalist and journalism academic whose investigative work and subsequent successful defence of a libel suit helped establish Taiwanese media freedom. Background and career overview A Hong Kong native, Chan received a bachelor's degree in social sciences from the University of Hong Kong and a master's in journalism from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Chan moved to the United States in 1972 to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Michigan. She later worked for the New York Daily News. In 1999, Chan founded the Journalism and Media Studies Centre at the University of Hong Kong, with it offering both graduate and undergraduate degrees in journalism. Eric Alterman
Eric Alterman (born January 14, 1960) is an American historian and journalist. He is a CUNY Distinguished Professor of English and Journalism at Brooklyn College and the author of twelve books. From 1995 to 2020, Alterman was "The Liberal Media" columnist for ''The Nation''. He is a contributing writer there, and at ''The American Prospect'', where under a two-year grant he wrote the newsletter, ''Altercation'', until January 27, 2023. Seymour Topping
Seymour Topping (December 11, 1921November 8, 2020) was an American journalist best known for his work as a foreign correspondent covering wars in China, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, and the Cold War in Europe. From 1969 to 1986, he was the second senior-most editor at ''The New York Times''. At the time of his death, he was the San Paolo Professor Emeritus of International Journalism at Columbia University, where he also served as administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes from 1993 to 2002. The Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) is a commercial citation index product of Clarivate Analytics. It was originally developed by the Institute for Scientific Information from the Science Citation Index. The Social Sciences Citation Index is a multidisciplinary index which indexes over 3,400 journals across 58 social science disciplines – 1985 to present, and it has 122 million cited references – 1900 to present. It also includes a range of 3,500 selected items from some of the world's finest scientific and technical journals. Scopus is a scientific abstract and citation database, launched by the academic publisher Elsevier as a competitor to older Web of Science in 2004. The ensuing competition between the two databases has been characterized as "intense" and is considered to significantly benefit their users in terms of continuous improvement in coverage, search/analysis capabilities, but not in price. PubMed is an openly accessible, free database which includes primarily the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. Benjamin Schwarz (born October 20, 1963) is an American editor and writer. He has written articles, essays, monographs, and reviews on an array of subjects, including history, politics, national security, foreign policy and international economics.
