World Compassion Day
World Compassion Day, often abbreviated to WCD, is an idea based on Ahimsa and Compassion. It is a day for global icons to share their ideologies, values and principles on how to make the Gandhian ideals of Ahimsa and Compassion relevant to our times. India is the first nation to drive this initiative, given the fact that it has been the crucible of religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism - all committed to the ideals of compassion and ahimsa. WCD 2012 had a special focus on animal welfare and the growing importance of vegetarianism for reasons of both healthcare and to discourage killing of other species. Pritish Nandy
Pritish Nandy (born 15 January 1951) is an Indian poet, painter, journalist, parliamentarian, media and television personality, animal activist and maker of films, TV and streaming content. He was a parliamentarian in the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra, elected on a ticket from the Shiv Sena. He is the author of forty books of poetry in English and has translated poems by other writers from Bengali, Urdu and Punjabi into English as well as a new version of the ''Isha Upanishad''. Apart from these, he has authored books of stories and non fiction as well as three books of translations of classical love poetry from Sanskrit. The nature of the world has been conceptualized differently in different fields. Some conceptions see the world as unique while others talk of a "plurality of worlds".
