Woolf (band)
Woolf is a British queercore band from London, England. They formed in 2009 at Lambeth Women's Project, and have released two LP records on Hackney punk label La Vida Es Un Mus. Their first gig was at The Windmill, Brixton with fellow Londoners Trash Kit. Specially comissioned music written and recorded by the band was included in London based artist Oreet Ashery's audiovisual work ''Party for Freedom'' which premiered in October 2012 as part of that year's Liverpool Biennial festival, and was later shown in London, Copenhagen, and Helsinki. The band performed live at the Helsinki screening held at the Photographic Gallery Hippolyte in October 2013. The work was released on DVD by Performance Matters in 2014. In October 2014 they performed at London's Hayward Gallery as part of Pil and Galia Kollectiv's installation ''Concrete Gown for Immaterial Flows'', part of the exhibition ''MIRRORCITY''. Punk Rock
Punk rock (also known as simply punk) is a rock music genre that emerged in the mid-1970s. Rooted in 1950s rock and roll and 1960s garage rock, punk bands rejected the corporate nature of mainstream 1970s rock music. Trash Kit
Trash Kit is a British post-punk trio formed in 2008 in London. Its members are Ray Aggs (guitar and vocals), Gill Partington (bass guitar), and Rachel Horwood (drums and vocals). Original bassist Ros Murray was previously of the band Electrelane. Ray Aggs also plays in Sacred Paws and Shopping, and Rachel Horwood in Bamboo and Bas Jan (the latter also featuring Serafina Steer). Gill Partington and Rachel Horwood also played together in Halo Halo. They have been compared to UK punk and post punk acts like The Slits, the Raincoats, and the Au Pairs, as well as noting the West African highlife influence on Aggs' guitar lines. Everett True (born Jeremy Andrew Thackray on 21 April 1961) is an English music journalist and musician. He became interested in rock music after hearing The Residents, and formed a band with school friends. He has written and recorded as The Legend. Career In 1982, he went to a gig by The Laughing Apple and met the group's lead singer Alan McGee. According to McGee: "there used to be this guy who'd stand at the front of all the gigs and dance disjointedly". Frau is an all-female hardcore punk band from London, England. ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard magazine'' named them one of "20 All-Female Bands You Need To Know"; rock critic Maria Sherman compares their sound to Bikini Kill. The punkzine ''Maximumrocknroll'' describes the band's highly charged and frantic sound as equal to the flippant swagger of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. Ashley Holland of the band, who also plays with Personnel and Good Throb, states that Frau seldom plays with other hardcore bands because the hardcore punk scene does not take female musicians seriously. Static Shock Records is an English independent record label, gig promoter, and distributor specialising in underground punk founded in London in 2008. From 2012 to 2023 the label organised a 'Static Shock Weekend' festival most years, held at different venues around the city. History Static Shock was founded in London by Tom Ellis in 2008. Its first release was a 7” from the Canadian power pop band Dangerloves, after seeing the band play at Toronto's Fucked Up Weekend, now called Not Dead Yet Fest. Hayward Gallery
The Hayward Gallery is an art gallery within the Southbank Centre in central London, England and part of an area of major arts venues on the South Bank of the River Thames. Oreet Ashery (; born 1966 in Jerusalem, Israel) is an interdisciplinary artist based in London. Career Ashery received her BA (distinction) in Fine Art from Sheffield Hallam University in 1992, followed by her MA in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins in 2000. Her work explores ideological, social and gender constructions through an interdisciplinary practice, spanning installation, video, live art, and 2-D image making.
