The Woodrow Wilson Pace was a harness racing major event for two-year-old Standardbred pacers run from 1977 through 2012 at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, New Jersey. First run in 1977 for a purse of $280,000, by 1980 the purse was $2,011,000, making it the richest race of any breed in horse racing history. Historical race events No No Yankee won the inaugural running of the Woodrow Wilson Pace and went on to earn American Champion Two-Year-Old Male Pacer honors. In 1984, the undefeated Nihilator won what would be the richest Woodrown Wilson Pace with a purse of $2,161,000. The Meadowlands Racetrack (currently referred to as Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment) is a horse racing track at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey, United States. The track hosts both thoroughbred racing and harness racing. It is known popularly in the region as "The Big M". Meadowlands has year-round horse racing as well as a number of bars and restaurants. History Opened in the mid-1970s, Meadowlands Racetrack held its first-ever harness race on September 1, 1976, while thoroughbred racing commenced on September 6, 1977. Ronald Pierce Ely (born June 21, 1938) is an American actor and novelist born in Hereford, Texas, and raised in Amarillo. Ely is best known for having portrayed Tarzan in the 1966–1968 NBC series ''Tarzan'' and for playing the lead role in the film '' Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze'' (1975). He hosted the ''Miss America'' pageant telecast in 1980 and 1981. Actor Ely won the role of Tarzan in 1966 after playing supporting roles in films such as ''South Pacific'' (1958), as an airplane navigator, ''The Fiend Who Walked the West'' (1958) and ''The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker'' (1959). During the filming of ''Tarzan'', Ely did virtually all of his stunts for the series, and suffered two dozen major injuries in the process, including two broken shoulders and various lion bites. David Miller (born December 10, 1964) is an American harness racing driver and trainer. Miller is one of North America's most successful drivers and was elected in the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame in 2014. Among horses he has driven is Always B Miki, Magician, No Pan Intended, Won The West, Poof She's Gone and Gimpanzee. Career David Miller was born December 10, 1964 in Columbus, Ohio. He grew up in Reynoldsburg, Ohio in a harness racing family - his father, grandfather, uncle, nephew and cousin were all drivers. Miller saw his first Little Brown Jug when he was 12 years old. Miller guided No Pan Intended to the Pacing Triple Crown in 2003. He has won a number of Triple Crown races and Breeders Crown trophies. The Adios Pace is a horse race for three-year-old Standardbred colts and geldings run annually since 1967 at a distance of one mile at Meadows Racetrack in North Strabane Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Historical race events The 1972 race final was the only time the Adios Pace ended in a dead heat. In 1997 the race was renamed the Delvin Miller Adios Pace to honor the legendary Hall of Fame driver/trainer Delvin Miller. 1997 also saw the only winner disqualification in the race's history when Dream Away finished first by five lengths but was disqualified for interference. In 1985, Nihilator won a division of the Adios Pace but was withdrawn from the final which would have been a match race against Marauder. To win, Marauder merely jogged around the track alone.
