Woodford is a town in East London, within the London Borough of Redbridge. It is located north-east of Charing Cross. Woodford historically formed an ancient parish in the county of Essex. It contained a string of agrarian villages and was part of Epping Forest. From about 1700 onwards, it became a place of residence for affluent people who had business in London; this wealth, together with its elevated position, has led to it being called the ''Geographical and social high point of East London''. Woodford Green is an area of Woodford in north-east London, England, within the London Borough of Redbridge. It adjoins Buckhurst Hill to the north, Woodford Bridge to the east, South Woodford to the south, and Chingford to the west. Epping Forest runs through Woodford Green in the west of the area, north-east of Charing Cross. It was a hamlet in the ancient civil parish of Woodford St Mary, in the historic county of Essex, becoming an urban district in 1894. For administrative purposes, this merged with the Wanstead Urban District to form the Wanstead and Woodford Urban District in 1934. Woodford, Wiltshire
Woodford is a civil parish in southern-central Wiltshire, England, on the west bank of the Salisbury Avon, about north of Salisbury. Its settlements are the villages of Lower Woodford, Middle Woodford and Upper Woodford, the last of which is the largest of the three. In 1871, the population was 523; in 1951, this had decreased to 405 people. History In 972, the name was recorded as ''Wuduforda'', which in Old English means "ford in or by a wood", from ''wudu'' + ''ford''. In the nineteenth century it was pronounced '' 'oodford''. The Domesday Book survey included Woodford manor under Salisbury, thus the land (with a mill) was held by the bishop of Salisbury. Woodford is a suburban village in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England, south of Stockport, north-west of Macclesfield and south-east of Manchester. Woodford is the most southerly point of Greater Manchester and consists of a ribbon of properties and a housing development along the A5102 road, around which is open countryside. Historically part of Cheshire, Woodford was a hamlet in the parish of Prestbury throughout the Middle Ages. Woodford, Northamptonshire
Woodford is a large village and civil parish located in North Northamptonshire, England. At the time of the 2011 census, the parish's population (including Woodwell) was 1,461 people. The village's name means 'wooded ford', referring to woodland near a shallow fording place on the River Nene. It is in two distinct parts, the easterly, lower, part being alongside the River Nene and the westerly, upper, part is on the through road out of the Nene valley. Its parish church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and has the nickname "the Cathedral of the Nene". Inside the church can be found a number of curiosities. Within a niche cut into a pillar, there is a mummified human heart wrapped in coarse cloth. This was discovered during restoration work in 1867. A framed newspaper cutting depicts a photograph of an alleged ghost taken in the church in 1964.
