World of Motion, presented by General Motors Corporation, General Motors,"GM's World of Motion Exhibit opens in Epcot Center at the Walt Disney World Resort. It was an opening day attraction at EPCOT Center in 1982 and it closed in 1996 to make way for Test Track, a new thrill ride through a GM testing facility. The AT&T High Seas Service was a radiotelephone service that provided ship-to-shore telephone calls, which consisted of stations WOO (transmitter station in Ocean Gate, New Jersey (), receiver station in Manahawkin, New Jersey, United States), WOM (Receiver site in Plantation, Florida (), transmitter on Krome Ave. ()) and KMI (transmitter station in Dixon, California (), receiver station in Point Reyes, California ()). Wom Brook
The Wom Brook is a stream in South Staffordshire, England. It flows through the large village of Wombourne, and has played an important part in its industrial history. It is an important tributary of the River Smestow and part of the Severn catchment. Etymology The name of the stream is probably a back-formation from the name of the village of Wombourn or Wombourne. The word ''burna'' was used for a stream in the oldest strata of Old English toponyms. The village name was long thought to mean "Womb Stream", or stream in a hollow, because this is a reasonable description of the situation. The stream itself is not named in Domesday and medieval documents relating to the village. However, to turn the first element in the village name into a designation for the stream was logical and the Wom Brook is so-named on Ordnance Survey maps, although not on earlier maps. Wombwell Railway Station
Wombwell railway station is a railway station serving the town of Wombwell in South Yorkshire, England. The station is north of Sheffield on the Hallam and Penistone Lines. The station was opened by the Midland Railway on 1 July 1897, and between 25 September 1950 and 20 February 1969 was known as Wombwell West to distinguish it from Wombwell's other railway station, Wombwell Central, which closed in 1959. CCTV was recently installed for the purposes of crime prevention. Other recent improvements to the station include new signage, lighting, and, for the first time, installation of passenger information display screens to provide real-time service information. The station car park was extended in 2009 to give a total of 74 spaces for rail users. Facilities The only permanent buildings remaining at the station (which is unstaffed) are standard waiting shelters on each platform. Wake-on-Ring (WOR) or Wake-on-Modem (WOM) is a specification that allows supported computers and devices to "wake up" or turn on from a sleeping, hibernating or "soft off" state (e.g. ACPI state G1 or G2), and begin operation. The basic premise is that a special signal is sent over phone lines to the computer through its dial-up modem, telling it to fully power-on and begin operation. Common uses were archive databases and BBSes, although hobbyist use was significant. Fax machines use a similar system, in which they are mostly idle until receiving an incoming fax signal, which spurs operation. The Rutles
The Rutles () were a rock band that performed visual and aural pastiches and parodies of the Beatles. This originally fictional band, created by Eric Idle and Neil Innes for a sketch in Idle's mid-1970s BBC television comedy series '' Rutland Weekend Television'', later toured and recorded, releasing two studio albums and garnering two UK chart hits. The band toured again from 2002 until Innes's death in 2019. Encouraged by the positive public reaction to the sketch, Idle wrote the mockumentary television film '' All You Need Is Cash'' (1978, ''The Rutles''). Idle co-directed the film with Gary Weis; it features 20 Beatles' music pastiches written by Innes, which he performed with three musicians as the Rutles. A soundtrack album in 1978 was followed in 1996 by ''Archaeology'', which spoofed the then-recent '' Beatles Anthology'' series.
