Wollondilly Anglican College is a Preschool to Year 12 co-educational private school located in the Tahmoor, New South Wales, Australia. The College services families and communities from areas such as the Southern Highlands, Picton, Camden, Campbelltown and beyond. History Opened in 2004 by former Prime Minister of Australia John Howard, Wollondilly Anglican College began its life teaching students from Kindergarten to Year 7. The ANZAC Shelter was opened in 2018 by Howard; Brendan Nelson, Director of the Australian War Memorial; Chief of Defence, Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin; and Brig. General Phil Winter. Picton, New South Wales
Picton is a small town in the Macarthur region of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. The town is the administrative centre of the Wollondilly Shire local government area. Picton is located southwest of the Sydney CBD. The town is part of the far southwest fringe of Greater Sydney and is located relatively close to other major suburbs, such as Camden and Campbelltown. History Picton was first explored by Europeans in 1798 and remained beyond the limits of legal settlement until 1821. Following the discovery of good land in the interior and the settlement of Bong Bong and the Goulburn areas, Governor Macquarie authorised the building of the new Great South Road between Sydney and the Southern Highlands in 1819. John Flynn (minister)
John Flynn (25 November 18805 May 1951) was an Australian Presbyterian minister who founded the Australian Inland Mission (AIM) which later separated into Frontier Services and the Presbyterian Inland Mission, as well as founding what became the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the world's first air ambulance. Early life Flynn was born at Moliagul, central Victoria on 25 November, 1880. The third child of Thomas and Rosetta Flynn, John was raised in Sydney by his mother's sister after his mother died during childbirth. When he was five, John was reunited with his family at Snake Gully, near Ballarat. The Flynn family later moved to Sunshine in Melbourne's western suburbs. Elizabeth Macarthur
Elizabeth Macarthur (14 August 1766 – 9 February 1850) was an English-born landowner and businesswomen who was wife of John Macarthur. Early life Elizabeth Macarthur was born in Bridgerule England, the daughter of provincial farmers, Richard and Grace Veale of Cornish origin. Her father died when she was aged four years. Her mother remarried when she was 11, leaving Elizabeth in the care of her grandfather, John, and friend. Elizabeth married Plymouth soldier John Macarthur in 1788. Charles Sturt
Charles Napier Sturt (28 April 1795 – 16 June 1869) was a British officer and explorer of Australia, and part of the European land exploration of Australia, European exploration of Australia. He led several expeditions into the interior of the continent, starting from Sydney and later from Adelaide. His expeditions traced several of the westward-flowing rivers, establishing that they all merged into the Murray River, which flows into the Southern Ocean. Dame Nellie Melba
Dame Nellie Melba (born Helen Porter Mitchell; 19 May 186123 February 1931) was an Australian operatic lyric coloratura soprano. She became one of the most famous singers of the late Victorian era and the early twentieth century, and was the first Australian to achieve international recognition as a classical musician. She took the pseudonym "Melba" from Melbourne, her home town. Melba studied singing in Melbourne and made a modest success in performances there. After a brief and unsuccessful marriage, she moved to Europe in search of a singing career. Failing to find engagements in London, England, in 1886, she studied in Paris, France, and soon made a great success there and in Brussels, Belgium. Sir Joseph Banks, 1st Baronet, (19 June 1820) was an English Natural history, naturalist, botanist, and patron of the natural sciences. Banks made his name on the European and American voyages of scientific exploration, 1766 natural-history expedition to Newfoundland and Labrador. Mark Binskin
Air Chief Marshal Mark Donald Binskin, (born 20 March 1960) is a senior officer in the Royal Australian Air Force Reserve. He served as Chief of Air Force (2008–11), Vice Chief of the Defence Force (2011–14), and Chief of the Defence Force from June 2014 until his retirement in July 2018. In February 2020 he was appointed as a Commissioner and Chairman of the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements. Brendan John Nelson (born 19 August 1958) is an Australian business leader, physician and former politician.
