Wolfgang Dremmler
Wolfgang Dremmler (born 12 July 1954) is a German former Association football, footballer who played as a midfielder. A trained Metalsmith, metalworker, Dremmler was part of the Germany national football team, West Germany team that reached the 1982 FIFA World Cup final against Italy at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Santiago Bernabéu. Altogether, he played in 310 Bundesliga matches (15 goals) for Eintracht Braunschweig and FC Bayern Munich, the club he joined in 1979 at the recommendation of Paul Breitner to win four Bundesliga and three DFB-Pokal, German Cup trophies until his retirement due to a knee-injury in 1986. For Germany national football team, West Germany he debuted on 7 January 1981 in a game against Brazil. In total he won 27 international cap, caps (three goals) for his country. The 1981–82 European Cup was the 27th season of the European Cup, UEFA's premier club football competition. The tournament was won for the only time by Aston Villa in the final against Bayern Munich. It was the sixth consecutive year that an English club won the competition. Liverpool, the defending champions, were eliminated by CSKA Sofia in the quarter-finals. The 1983–84 DFB-Pokal was the 41st season of the annual German Association football, football cup competition. It began on 16 August 1983 and ended on 31 May 1984. In the final FC Bayern Munich, Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 8–7 on Penalty shootout (association football), penalties to take their seventh title. It was the first time the cup final was decided by a penalty shootout. Controversy raged after the penalty shoot out. Lothar Matthäus was playing his last game for Moenchengladbach before his big Summer move to Bayern. He stepped up to take the first penalty for Borussia and missed. Loyal Borussia fans claimed foul.
