Wise Quacks
''Wise Quacks'' is a 1939 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' animated short film directed by Bob Clampett. The cartoon was released on August 5, 1939, and stars Porky Pig and Daffy Duck. A different design of Daffy was used in this cartoon. In this cartoon, Daffy has a light-colored mask around his eyes and a zig-zag ring around his neck. This design would be used one more time in '' Porky's Last Stand'' in 1940 and some advertisements during the time. Plot Mrs. Daffy surprises Daffy with the news that she has several eggs waiting to be hatched. Porky reads the announcement of the expecting duck duo in the newspaper. The eggs hatch as Porky comes to congratulate his old friend. Later, an eagle tries to make off with one of the babies. Daffy, still drunk off of corn juice from both worrying about the birth as well as celebrating the hatchlings, pursues the birdnapper. The eagle gathers reinforcements to take on the drunk duck. Bob Clampett
Robert Emerson Clampett Sr. (May 8, 1913 – May 2, 1984) was an American animator, director, producer and puppeteer. He was best known for his work on the ''Looney Tunes'' animated series from Warner Bros. as well as the television shows '' Time for Beany'' and '' Beany and Cecil''. He was born and raised not far from Hollywood and, early in life, showed an interest in animation and puppetry. After leaving high school a few months shy of graduating in 1931, he joined the team at Harman-Ising Productions and began working on the studio's newest short subjects, ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies''. Clampett was promoted to a directorial position in 1937. During his 15 years at the studio, he directed 84 cartoons later deemed classic, and designed some of the studio's most famous characters, including Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Tweety. ''Let It Be Me'' is a 1936 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Friz Freleng. The short was released on May 2, 1936. Plot The plot revolves around an anthropomorphic hen named Emily (a prototype Miss Prissy), whose boyfriend rooster, Clem, is just about to propose marriage to her when she gets infatuated with a passing rooster motorist, the radio crooner Mr. Bingo (a caricature of Bing Crosby). She goes with Mr. Bingo instead. Bingo, while dating Emily in a nightclub, gets infatuated with a singing French hen (a caricature of Irene Bordoni), and after Emily cries that Bingo no longer loves her, has a waiter throw her out into the street. Crying, she then fends for herself selling violets on a winter day. The jilted Clem, meanwhile, overhears Mr. Bingo on the radio. Daffy Duck is an animated cartoon character created for Leon Schlesinger Productions by animators Tex Avery and Bob Clampett. Styled as an anthropomorphic black duck, he has appeared in cartoon series such as ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'', in which he is usually depicted as a foil for either Bugs Bunny or Porky Pig. A booby is a seabird in the genus ''Sula'', part of the family Sulidae. Boobies are closely related to the gannets (''Morus''), which were formerly included in ''Sula''. Systematics and evolution The genus ''Sula'' was introduced by the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson in 1760. The type species is the brown booby. The name is derived from ''súla'', the Old Norse and Icelandic word for the other member of the family Sulidae, the gannet.
