Winsome Andante (April 6, 1993 – September 25, 2019) was an English imported crossbred eventer (84.5% Thoroughbred, 9.5% Arabian (horse), Arabian, and 6% Irish) who competed successfully to the highest levels of the sport of eventing with rider Kimberly Severson. Winsome Andante won the Rolex Concours Complet International, CCI**** a record three times. He also competed at the Burghley Horse Trials, as well as in the Olympic Games, Olympics and the World Equestrian Games. "Dan" competed in 47 competitions between 2000 and 2007. Of those, he placed in the top three in 39 events. He stood . In 2003, Winsome Andante underwent colic surgery. After recovery he won the 2004 Rolex Kentucky CCI****. Winsome Cripps
Winsome Cripps (later Dennis, 9 February 1931 – 30 May 1997) was an Australian sprinter who competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics and the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. In 1952, Cripps competed in the Australian National Championships, and finished third in the 100 yard race and second place in the 220 yards and so was picked for the Australian Athletics Olympic team. At the 1952 Summer Olympics, Cripps was unlucky to come away without a medal, in the 100 metres she won her first round heat in 12 seconds, then came third in her second round race, luckily the first three from each heat qualified for the semi-finals, in her semi-final she again ran in a time of 12 seconds and finished behind fellow Australian, Marjorie Jackson who ran an equalling World Record time of 11.5 seconds, in the final she ran her best time of 11.9 seconds but only managed to finish in fourth place. Winsome Douglas
Winsome Douglas (1919-2016) was a British embroiderer and teacher active in the United Kingdom in the 1950s and 1960s. She was born in Hartlepool in County Durham in 1919, and died at the age of 97 on 28 December 2016 in Hartlepool. Early life and education An only child, Douglas' early life was spent primarily in the northeast of England. She attended the West Hartlepool High School for Girls. After leaving school, she gained a place at the St Hild's Women's Teacher Training College (now part of the University of Durham) where she graduated with a degree in geography. Teaching career Much of Douglas' working life was dedicated to teaching in secondary schools in the Hartlepool area. Initially during the Second World War she taught pupils at the Dyke House SchooPrior to retirement she taught at the Henry Smith Grammar School where she eventually became the deputy head of the school. Winsome Joan Evans OAM BEM (born 26 October 1941), is one of Australia's premier early music specialists. Biography She received a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree in composition from the University of Sydney, where her lecturers included Peter Sculthorpe. In addition to her activities as a professional harpsichordist, composer, and arranger, she is known for her role as director of the Renaissance Players, one of Australia's leading early music ensembles. She was an associate professor of music at the University of Sydney. Evans has "re-composed" all of Johann Sebastian Bach's works for solo violin as works for clavicembalo, adding accompaniments as she believes Bach must have had in mind. Winsome Fanny Barker (23 September 1907 – 27 December 1994) was a South African botanist and plant collector noted for her work as Curator building the collection at the herbarium of the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, as well as her research on Amaryllidaceae, Liliaceae and Haemodoraceae. Biography Barker was born in Jamestown, Cape Colony to Joseph Barker (of Seaham, County Durham) and his wife Beatrice (née Cusens). The family moved to East London where she matriculated at East London Girls High School. Barker went on to complete a BSc in botany and zoology at Rhodes University College in 1928. The Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns awarded her the Junior Captain Scott medals in both subjects as she had attained the highest marks in her class. Winsome Hall Andrew (1905–1997) was an Australian architect. Background and career Andrew was born in Woollahra, New South Wales in 1905. She was the fifth child born of ten to Arthur Hall and Susy Foy. Being raised in a middle-class family, Andrew and her siblings had a tough upbringing due to their mother coming from a wealthy family and their father working for the New South Wales public service as a surveyor on a clerical wage. Arthur Hall had a strict eye for perfection and only expected the highest of standards from his sons and daughters. Winsome McPherson McCaughey (; born 23 October 1943), was Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 1988 to 1989. She was the second woman to hold that position after succeeding Alexis Ord. Early life Winsome Howell was born and raised on a property at Baddaginnie, in north-east Victoria, where her great-grandparents had settled in 1870. After primary school she was sent to board at Morongo Girls' College in Geelong. Winsome Earle-Sears (born March 11, 1964) is an American politician, businesswoman, and Marine Corps veteran serving as the 42nd lieutenant governor of Virginia since 2022. A member of the Republican Party, she is Virginia's first female lieutenant governor and the first woman of color to hold statewide office in Virginia.
