Wing Lung Bank
CMB Wing Lung Bank (; former stock no: ) is a bank based in Hong Kong. As of December 2018, the bank has 35 branches in Hong Kong, 4 branches in mainland China, 1 branch in Macau and 2 overseas branches, located respectively in Los Angeles and San Francisco in United States. The bank was founded on 25 February 1933 by Dr. Wu Yee-sun, who owned a majority stake in the bank. It was listed in Hong Kong from 1980 to 2009 until it was acquired by China Merchants Bank. It currently employs over 1,900 people and has assets over HKD 300 billion. In 2008, China Merchants Bank purchased 53.12 percent of Wing Lung Bank's equity and became the largest shareholder of the bank. Des Voeux Road Central (Traditional Chinese characters, Chinese: 德輔道中) and Des Voeux Road West (Traditional Chinese characters, Chinese: 德輔道西) are two roads on the north shore of Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. They were named after the 10th Governor of Hong Kong, Sir William Des Vœux. Wu Yee-sun
Wu Yee-sun (, 1900 – 11 May 2005) was a Hong Kong entrepreneur and billionaire who founded the Wing Lung Bank. Life and career Although he was born into a well-known family, times were difficult and he had to leave school at 14. The family suffered through a number of disasters and, as the oldest son, Wu left Guangdong to seek work in Hong Kong to help support his family in the 1920s. In 1933, he and some friends established "Wing Lung Money Exchange" (later Wing Lung Bank) in Central, Hong Kong. In later years contributions towards setting up or improving hospitals, clinics, universities and schools in Mainland China and Hong Kong were made in the name of Wu or his father. On 11 May 2005, Dr. Wu died in Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital at the age of 105. A minor planet was discovered at the Purple Mountain Observatory at Nanking, China in 1979.
