Windsor Phoenix Football Club was an association football club from Windsor, Berkshire, active in the late Victorian era. History The Windsor Phoenix Athletic Club was formed in 1881, and it started to play association football against other sides in earnest in 1883; the club was therefore sometimes called Windsor Phoenix Athletic. The club had some high profile patronage - after the Rev. S. Hawtrey died in 1886, he was replaced as vice-president by Viscount Curzon MP. Its earliest competitive football came in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup - a defeat at Maidenhead Norfolkians in the first round in 1886 being considered a considerable shock - and the club's first success came in the competition in the 1887–88 season, upsetting competition favourites Reading Albion with a 3–2 win at Maidenhead, all of the goals coming in the first half. Berks & Bucks Senior Cup
The Berks & Bucks FA County Senior Cup is the Senior County Cup competition of the Berks & Bucks FA. History The competition first took place in 1878–79 – a time when the FA Cup had only been going for seven years, there was no Football League, and most countries in the world did not have any football competitions at all. Originally known as the ''Berks & Bucks Challenge Cup'', Reading was the inaugural winner, defeating Marlow 1–0 in the final held at the Reading Cricket Ground. The trophy was shared in its second season; after Swifts and Old Philberdians drew twice in the final, the association ruled that both clubs were joint holders. The competition mainly consists of non-league teams. However, three Football League teams – Wycombe Wanderers, Milton Keynes Dons and Reading – have recently competed, often fielding reserve and youth team players. Home Park, Windsor
The Home Park, previously known as the Little Park (and originally Lydecroft Park), is a 2.65 km2 royal park near Windsor, Berkshire, administered by the Crown Estate of the United Kingdom. It is the private grounds of Windsor Castle. It lies mainly on the eastern side of the castle in the former civil parish of Windsor in the English county of Berkshire. The park includes the Frogmore estate, and several private organisations related to the estate have facilities in the park. To the Home Park's south is the Windsor Great Park, largely open to the public. Home Park is listed Grade I on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Historic England. Southern Alliance
The Southern Alliance was a short-lived football league competition for teams in the South of England. At the time, there were no Southern teams in the Football League and no equivalent competition existed for clubs in the south. John Oliver, a carpet manufacturer in the City of London was noted as being responsible for the formation of the Southern Alliance which was set up in 1892 and ran for just one season in 1892–93. The league featured seven leading amateur teams from the Home Counties, namely: * Erith * Old St Stephen's * Polytechnic * Slough Town * Tottenham Hotspur * Upton Park * Windsor & Eton Notable in their absence were leading Southern sides such as Woolwich Arsenal (who had turned professional in 1891 and were banned from local competitions) and Millwall Athletic. Hunt's is a brand of preserved tomato products owned by Conagra Brands. The company was founded in 1888, in Sebastopol, California, as the Hunt Bros. Fruit Packing Co., by Joseph and William Hunt. The brothers relocated to nearby Santa Rosa in 1890, and then to Hayward in 1895. This small canning operation grew rapidly, focused on canning the products of California's booming fruit and vegetable industries. By 1941, the plant shipped a hundred million cans of soup, fruits, vegetables, and juices annually. In 1943, Hunt's was taken over by Norton Simon's Val Vita Food Products - a competing firm founded in the early 1930s and based in Fullerton, California. The merged firm kept the ''Hunt's'' name and incorporated as Hunt Food and Industries, Inc. The new management led by Norton Simon decided to focus the company on canned tomato products, particularly prepared tomato sauce.
