Wimal Dissanayake
Wimal Dissanayake (born 1939) is a Sri Lankan writer, lecturer, and scholar of Asian cinema and Asian communication theory. Biography He is from Nikaveva, a village about 35 kilometers away from Kurunegala town. Both his parents were school teachers. He attended high school at Trinity College, Kandy. He studied under dramatist Ediriweera Sarachchandra. Career He graduated from the University of Peradeniya with a Bachelor of Arts degree upon graduating from the university, which merged while he was there with the University of Ceylon. He then obtained an M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D from the University of Cambridge. He received Fulbright and Rockefeller Fellowships. He then became Wei Lun Distinguished Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He criticised the wholesale adoption of Western-based communication theory, research, and methodologies. Kurunegala
Kurunegala ( si, කුරුණෑගල, ta, குருணாகல்) is a major city in Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of the North Western Province and the Kurunegala District. Kurunegala was an ancient royal capital for 50 years, from the end of the 13th century to the start of the 14th century. It is at the junction of several main roads linking to other important parts of the country. It is about from Colombo, from Kandy and from Matale. Located at an altitude of above sea level, Kurunegala is surrounded by coconut plantations and rubber estates. There are eight very noticeable large rocks that encircle and dominate the city. Deshabandu ( si, දේශබන්දු, translit=dēśabandu; ta, தேசபந்து, translit=Tēcapantu, translation=Patriot) is the third highest national honour awarded in Sri Lanka. It is awarded "for meritorious service". The title is held by no more than 150 living holders at any time. It is conferred with a citation and a silver medal with a symbol of a peacock. The Hawai'i International Film Festival (HIFF) is an annual film festival held in the United States state of Hawaii. HIFF has a focus on Asian-Pacific cinema, education, and the work of new and emerging filmmakers.
