Wilsonia (bird)
''Wilsonia'' was a formerly recognized small genus of New World warblers. The species previously included in the genus breed in North America and are migratory, wintering south of their breeding ranges in Central America, the West Indies or South America. The three species formerly included in ''Wilsonia'', all since transferred to other genera, are: * Hooded warbler, now ''Setophaga citrina'' * Wilson's warbler, now ''Cardellina pusilla'' * Canada warbler, now ''Cardellina canadensis'' Former ''Wilsonia'' warblers are long. They have yellow underparts and black head markings in at least the adult male plumage. The hooded warbler and Wilson's warbler have plain olive green-brown backs, while the Canada warbler has grey upperparts and also migrates much further than the others. The breeding habitat is broadleaved woodlands with dense undergrowth. These birds nest low in a bush or on the ground, laying 3–6 eggs in a cup nest. Former ''Wilsonia'' warblers feed on insects, ...

Wilsonia (ant)
The Formicinae are a subfamily within the Formicidae containing ants of moderate evolutionary development. Formicines retain some primitive features, such as the presence of cocoons around pupae, the presence of ocelli in workers, and little tendency toward reduction of palp or antennal segmentation in most species, except subterranean groups. Extreme modification of mandibles is rare, except in the genera ''Myrmoteras'' and ''Polyergus''. However, some members show considerable evolutionary advancement in behaviors such as slave-making and symbiosis with root-feeding hemipterans. Finally, all formicines have very reduced stings and enlarged venom reservoirs, with the venom gland, specialized (uniquely among ants) for the production of formic acid. All members of the Formicinae "have a one-segmented petiole in the form of a vertical scale". Identification Formicine ants have a single node-like or scale-like petiole (postpetiole entirely lacking) and the apex of the abdomen ...

Wilsonia, California
Wilsonia is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tulare County, California. Wilsonia sits at an elevation of . It is surrounded by the General Grant Grove section of Kings Canyon National Park. History The community of Wilsonia began as a 100-acre plot of land homesteaded in the 1870s. After several ownership changes, the land was subdivided among residents. The village was officially established in 1918. The name “Wilsonia” originates from the United States presidential election of 1916. The outcome of the election was decided by votes from the mountain communities of California, which were delayed due to a snowstorm. To commemorate the area's decisive role in President Woodrow Wilson’s reelection, the community was named Wilsonia in his honor. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP covers an area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km), all of it land. While the village is surrounded by Kings Canyon National Park, the village itself is not part o ...
