Wilson Lauder
Wilson Lauder (born 4 November 1948) is a former Scotland rugby union international based in Wales. Lauder was born in the village of Thornton in Fife, Scotland. He spent several years of his childhood in Rhodesia and when he was 11 years of age his family settled in Bridgend, Wales, where he attended Heol Gam Secondary School. Having not played rugby union until his arrival in Wales, Lauder developed his game under the mentorship of Wales fullback Grahame Hodgson, who taught at his school. He represented Wales Schoolboys in 1963–64. Lauder played his early rugby with Llantwit Major, before switching to Neath in the 1967–68 season, to begin a 10-year career at The Gnoll. In 1971, he broke the Neath record for most points in a game twice in the space of a fortnight. A flanker, Lauder represented the country of his birth in international rugby. Thornton, Fife
Thornton ( sco, Thorntoun) is a village in Fife, Scotland. It is between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes, and stands between the River Ore and Lochty Burn, which are at opposite ends of the main street. The Church of Scotland parish church was built in 1835 and is located on the Main Street. Transport The village has a small railway station, which is called Glenrothes with Thornton. Although situated at the south end of Thornton, it also serves the Glenrothes area. This rail halt was opened in May 1992, restoring a rail service to Thornton lost when its main line railway station closed in October 1969 as a consequence of the 1963 report by Dr Richard Beeching on the Reshaping of British Railways (the Beeching Report). Maesteg RFC Players
Maesteg is a town and community in Bridgend County Borough, Wales. Maesteg lies at the northernmost end of the Llynfi Valley, close to the border with Neath Port Talbot. In 2011, Maesteg had a population of 20,612. The English translation of Maesteg is 'fair field'. Historically a part of Glamorgan, the growth of the town started with the opening of ironworks in the 1820s, and 1830s. Once a coal mining area, the last pit closed in 1985. With the decline of the coal industry and, more recently, the closure of one large factory producing cosmetics and another manufacturing vehicle components, the valley has become a residential/dormitory area for the Port Talbot, Bridgend and Cardiff journey to work areas. 11% (1,867 out of 20,702) of the town's population speak Welsh with 27.9% of 3-15 year olds speaking the language.
