Anna Wilmarth Thompson Ickes (January 27, 1873 – August 31, 1935) was an American politician and activist. Early life Born Anna Hawes Wilmarth in Chicago, Illinois, to Henry Martin Wilmarth, a manufacturer and organizer of the First National Bank of Chicago, and Mary Jane (Hawes) Wilmarth (1837–1919), a civic and reform leader, Wilmarth went to the South Division High School and to the University of Chicago. Ickes was influenced by her mother, Mary Wilmarth, a progressive woman's activist and colleague of Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr. Career In 1897, she married James Westfall Thompson (1869–1941), who was an instructor at the University of Chicago; in 1909, they were granted a divorce. On September 16, 1911, she married Harold L. Christopher Wilmarth (1943 – November 19, 1987) was an American artist, known for producing sculptures using primarily glass and steel. Early life Christopher Wilmarth was born on June 11, 1943, in Sonoma, California. He was raised in Sonoma County, California, Sonoma County and Palo Alto, California, before moving to New York City in the 1960s. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, B.F.A. from Cooper Union in 1966. Career Wilmarth was a professor of sculpture at Cooper Union and Columbia University. Wilmarth arrived at glass as his preferred medium after moving to New York City, influenced by other Minimalism, minimalists, such as Donald Judd and Carl Andre, and the city scape. As a material, glass was capable of capturing, reflecting, and refracting light to illusory and emotional effect. Dick Wilmarth (c.1942 – March 21, 2018) was a miner and trapper from Red Devil, Alaska who won the inaugural Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in 1973 with lead dog ''Hotfoot''.
