Wilma Driessen
Wilma Driessen (born Wilhelmina Jacoba Driessen, December 6, 1938) is a Dutch operatic coloratura soprano. She is known for her versatility and extraordinary vocal expression. Child prodigy Dutch-born Driessen started performing as a child prodigy at the age of only seven. At the age of fourteen she gave her first radio recital, with songs by Max Reger and Johannes Brahms. At the age of ten she started her study singing and music at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Later she studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Career In 1959, at the age of 20, Driessen made her debut in the title role of ''Lakmé'' by Léo Delibes at the Vlaamse Opera in Ghent and the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège. She made her Dutch debut at the De Nederlandse Opera (DNO) in Amsterdam as Leïla in Bizet's ''Les pêcheurs de perles'', and was then engaged at the house as the first coloratura soprano. ''The Tales of Hoffmann'' (French: ) is an by Jacques Offenbach. The French libretto was written by Jules Barbier, based on three short stories by E. T. A. Hoffmann, who is the protagonist of the story. It was Offenbach's final work; he died in October 1880, four months before the premiere. Composition history and sources Offenbach saw a play, , written by Barbier and Michel Carré and produced at the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe, Odéon Theatre in Paris in 1851. After returning from America in 1876, Offenbach learned that Barbier had adapted the play, which had now set to music at the Opéra. Salomon handed the project to Offenbach. Work proceeded slowly, interrupted by the composition of profitable lighter works. Offenbach had a premonition, like Antonia, the heroine of Act 2, that he would die prior to its completion. The Order of Orange-Nassau ( nl, Orde van Oranje-Nassau, links=no) is a civil and military Dutch order of chivalry founded on 4 April 1892 by the queen regent, Emma of the Netherlands. International Vocal Competition 's-Hertogenbosch
The International Vocal Competition 's-Hertogenbosch (IVC; ) is a music competition for classical singing founded in 1954. It is the only classical vocal competition in the Netherlands that also focuses, besides opera, oratorio and Lied. This biennial event is organised by the Stichting Muziekstad 's-Hertogenbosch. The IVC is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions since 1959. The IVC offers singers the chance to perform for casting directors, concert managements, impresarios, the media and a concert and theatregoing audience. Alongside its competition the IVC also presents master classes, workshops, summer schools and concerts. Concerts are organised in collaboration with various organisations. The IVC also provides advice on repertoire, career possibilities, media management and auditioning.
