Willy Breitling
Willy Breitling was a Swiss watchmaker, businessman and the former president of the Swiss luxury wristwatch manufacturer Breitling SA. Willy Breitling is credited for the invention and introduction of the first two-pusher chronograph wristwatch in 1934. Accomplishments Amongst Willy Breitling's many pioneering achievements, was the establishment of the Huit Aviation Department in 1938. Willy Breitling was also responsible for bringing to market the patented model Chronomat in 1940, which is characterized by a patented rotating slide rule for technicians and scientists. In 1953, Wily Breitling launched the 'Premier line' and opened a new segment for the company, targeting the high-end market with wristwatches in precious metals and elegant shapes, instead of the rugged pilot and military timepieces the brand was famous for. Saint-Imier
Saint-Imier () is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located in the French-speaking Bernese Jura (''Jura Bernois''). The Observatoire Astronomique de Mont-Soleil is located above the village. History Saint-Imier is first mentioned in 884 as ''cella de sancti Himerii''. The municipality was formerly known by its German name ''St. Immer'', however, that name is no longer used. Its name refers to Imerius of Immertal, a 7th-century saint. According to the legend of St. Imerius, he settled in the valley as a hermit in the late 6th or early 7th century on a piece of land that bishop Marius of Lausanne gave him as a present. In 884 a ''cella'' (probably a church, farm and monastery) was mentioned on the site. Archeological excavations around the former Church of St. Martin indicate that a village grew up around the ''cella'' around the same time. Breitling SA () is a Swiss luxury watchmaker founded in 1884 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, by Léon Breitling. The company is known for its precision-made chronometers designed for aviators and is based in Grenchen, Switzerland. History Breitling SA was founded in Saint-Imier by Léon Breitling in 1884. When Breitling died in 1914, the business passed to his son, Gaston, and then to his son, Willy, in 1935. Willy's children were not interested in pursuing the family business, so the Breitling factory in La Chaux de Fonds closed in December 1978. Willy, already in poor health, died in May 1979.
