Willie Donald
William Alexander Donald (29 July 1953 – 13 November 2022) was a Scottish cricketer and administrator. A right-handed batsman and right-armed medium-pace bowler, Donald played for the Scotland national cricket team in 8 first-class and 32 List A matches. Donald worked as a banker and spent 11 years in London. On his return to Scotland he returned to cricket, being appointed interim chief executive of Cricket Scotland in 2015. He became the organisation's president in 2018 for a two-year term. He was also president of Aberdeenshire Cricket Club from 2019. Early life and playing career Donald was born in July 1953 at Huntly, Aberdeenshire. He was educated in Huntly at The Gordon Schools, before matriculating to the University of Aberdeen. Huntly
Huntly ( or ''Hunndaidh'') is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, formerly known as Milton of Strathbogie or simply Strathbogie. It had a population of 4,460 in 2004 and is the site of Huntly Castle. The Benson & Hedges Cup was a one-day cricket competition for first-class counties in England and Wales that was held from 1972 to 2002, one of cricket's longest sponsorship deals. It was the third major one-day competition established in England and Wales after the Sunday League and the Gillette Cup. Traditionally a 'big day out' for the finalist's supporters, it was the less prestigious of the two cups. It began as a 55 over a side game, but was later reduced to 50. North Inch
North Inch is a large public park in Perth, Scotland, Perth, Scotland. About in size, it is one of two "Inches" in Perth, the other being the smaller, 31-hectare South Inch, located half a mile across the city. The inches were granted to the city, when it was a royal burgh, by Robert II of Scotland, King Robert II in 1374. Leicestershire County Cricket Club
Leicestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Leicestershire. It has also been representative of the county of Rutland. The club's limited overs team is called the Leicestershire Foxes. Founded in 1879, the club had minor county status until 1894, when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. In cricket, a player's batting average is the total number of runs they have scored divided by the number of times they have been out, usually given to two decimal places. Since the number of runs a player scores and how often they get out are primarily measures of their own playing ability, and largely independent of their teammates, batting average is a good metric for an individual player's skill as a batter (although the practice of drawing comparisons between players on this basis is not without criticism). Shawholm
Shawholm is a former cricket ground in Glasgow, Scotland. Located within Pollok Country Park, it was the home ground of Poloc Cricket Club and staged three First-class cricket, first-class matches. The earliest match hosted by the club that is, arguably, of historic interest was the game between a West of Scotland select team and the Australian Imperial Force Touring XI, Australian Imperial Forces as part of the latter's tour of England in 1919. Shawholm also played host to Scotland versus the Marylebone Cricket Club, MCC in June 1965 in a three-day match played between the 23rd and 25th. The Ireland men's cricket team represents All-Ireland in international cricket.
