Willie Colón (musician)
William Anthony Colón Román (born April 28, 1950) is a Puerto Rican and American salsa music, Salsa musician and social activist. He began his career as a trombone, trombonist but also sings, writes, produces and acts. Colón was a pioneer of Salsa music and a best-selling artist in the genre, having been a key figure in the nascent New York City scene associated with Fania Records. He is also noteworthy for having assumed the gangster image in his album covers before it was culturally popular. Since the 1980s he has at times been deeply involved in the politics of New York City. Early years Colón was born in the South Bronx in New York City to Puerto Rican parents. William James Dixon (July 1, 1915January 29, 1992) was an American blues musician, vocalist, songwriter, arranger and record producer. He was proficient in playing both the upright bass and the guitar, and sang with a distinctive voice, but he is perhaps best known as one of the most prolific songwriters of his time. Next to Muddy Waters, Dixon is recognized as the most influential person in shaping the post–World War II sound of the Chicago blues. Willie D. Davis (July 24, 1934 – April 15, 2020) was an American professional American football, football player who was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). Davis played college football for the Grambling State Tigers football, Grambling Tigers before being drafted 181st in the 1956 NFL draft. Willie Robert Drew Jr. (born July 5, 2000) is an American professional football cornerback for the DC Defenders of the United Football League (UFL). He played college football at James Madison and Virginia State. Early life and high school Drew attended high school at Smithfield High School. In Drew's first game as a senior he set a school and Bay Rivers District record throwing for 388 yards and four touchdowns on 21 completions. In his senior season, Drew notched 50 tackles with five interception. Bill Henry "Willie" Apiata, VC (born 28 June 1972) is an honorary warrant officer class one in the New Zealand Army Reserve Forces. As a corporal in the New Zealand Special Air Service, he became the first recipient of the Victoria Cross for New Zealand. He received the award on 2 July 2007 for bravery under fire during the War in Afghanistan in 2004, in which he carried a gravely wounded comrade across a battlefield, under fire, to safety. Apiata is the only recipient of the Victoria Cross for New Zealand, which replaced the Imperial Victoria Cross in 1999. There are no living New Zealand recipients of the Victoria Cross, which was last awarded to a New Zealander for actions in the Second World War.
