William W. Hicks Beach
Major William Whitehead Hicks Beach (23 March 1907 – 1 January 1975) was a Conservative politician in the United Kingdom. He was Member of Parliament for Cheltenham from 1950 to 1964 and was also an Alderman of Cheltenham Borough Council. Life The son of Ellis Hicks Beach (1874–1943) by his marriage to Nancy Whitehead, he was the grandson of William Frederick Hicks-Beach (1841–1923), a younger brother of Michael Hicks Beach, 1st Earl St Aldwyn. He was promoted to Captain in the Territorial Army Royal Armoured Corps On 12 September 1939 Hicks-Beach married Diana Hoare (1911–2002), a daughter of Christopher "Kit" Gurney Hoare, the chairman of stockbrokers Hoare & Co. they had two daughters, Elizabeth (later Mrs Hinson) and Rosemary (later Mrs Naylor), and one son, Mark Hicks Beach (1943–1998). Cheltenham (), also known as Cheltenham Spa, is a spa town and borough on the edge of the Cotswolds in the county of Gloucestershire, England. Douglas Dodds-Parker
Sir Arthur Douglas Dodds-Parker (5 July 1909 – 13 September 2006) was a British imperial administrator, a wartime soldier involved in irregular warfare, and Conservative politician. Between the wars, he served in the Sudan, in the prestigious Sudan Political Service. Once the war broke out, he joined the Special Operations Executive (SOE), but was returned to the Sudan to serve in the famous Gideon Force during the liberation of Ethiopia. After the East African campaign, he served on SOE's planning staff in London, before taking command roles in the Mediterranean Theatre. In political life, he served twice as a Member of Parliament (MP). He was MP for Banbury from 1945 to 1959, holding three junior ministerial positions from 1953 to 1957. In particular, he was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs through the Suez Crisis in 1956. Daniel Leopold Lipson
Daniel Leopold Lipson (26 March 1886 – 14 April 1963) was a politician in the United Kingdom. Originally a teacher at Cheltenham College and later a headmaster, he became a member of Cheltenham Borough council, serving as mayor during the 1930s, before he was elected as an Independent Conservative Member of Parliament for the Cheltenham constituency at a by-election in 1937, the local Conservative party having refused to endorse him as its candidate following an anti-semitic whispering campaign. He was re-elected at the general election of 1945 as a National Independent, but at the 1950 election his vote fell and he lost the seat to the Conservative candidate William Hicks Beach, coming third behind the Labour candidate. Lipson was made an Alderman, and in 1953 an honorary Freeman of the Borough of Cheltenham.
