William Gerard Power
William Gerard Power (April 19, 1882July 8, 1940) was a Canadian politician. Born in the parish of Sillery, Quebec, the son of William Power and Susan Winifred Rockett, Power was educated at the Commercial Academy of Quebec and the College Mont-Saint-Louis in Montreal . A lumber merchant, he joined W & J Sharples in 1897, becoming its president in 1921, until 1929. A partner in the River Ouelle Pulp & Lumber Company. Named to the Legislative Council of Quebec in 1923 for the division of Stadacona as a Liberal. He resigned on July 25, 1934, to become a member of the Quebec Liquor Commission. His brother, Charles Gavan Power, was an MP and senator; another brother, Joe Power, was a professional ice hockey player and member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec; yet another brother, James Power, was a professional ice hockey player. Legislative Council Of Quebec
The Legislative Council of Quebec (French; ''Conseil législatif du Québec'') was the unelected upper house of the bicameral legislature in the Canadian province of Quebec from 1867 to 1968. The Legislative Assembly was the elected lower house. The council was composed of 24 members, appointed by the Lieutenant Governor upon the recommendation of the Premier. Each councillor nominally represented a portion of the Province of Quebec called a division. The boundaries of these divisions were identical to the ones used for Canada East by the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada and were also identical to the boundaries still used today by the Senate of Canada for Quebec. The division boundaries were never changed to accommodate territorial expansions of Quebec in 1898 and 1912. United Nations Emergency Force
The United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) was a military and peacekeeping operation established by the United Nations General Assembly to secure an end to the Suez Crisis of 1956 through the establishment of international peacekeepers on the border between Egypt and Israel. Approved by resolution 1001 (ES-I) of 7 November 1956, UNEF was developed in large measure as a result of efforts by UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld and a proposal from Canadian Minister of External Affairs Lester B. Pearson, who would later win the Nobel Peace Prize for it. James Power (ice Hockey)
James "Rocket" Power (February 9, 1884 – April 6, 1920) was a Canadian ice hockey player who was active from 1900 to 1913. Rocket played on the 1904 Quebec Bulldogs Canadian Amateur Hockey League, CAHL championship team. That year, Quebec did not challenge for the Stanley Cup. He also played one regular season game for Quebec Bulldogs 1913 Stanley Cup champion team. The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. Lawrence Cannon
Lawrence Cannon, (born December 6, 1947) is a Canadian politician from Quebec and Prime Minister Stephen Harper's former Quebec lieutenant. In early 2006, he was made the Minister of Transport. On October 30, 2008, he relinquished oversight of Transport and was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was defeated in the 2011 federal election by the NDP's Mathieu Ravignat. He was appointed as Canadian Ambassador to France in May 2012, and he served in that position until September 2017.
