William Edwards (Wisconsin)
William Henry Samuel Edwards (May 14, 1861August 16, 1944) was an American educator, farmer, and Republican politician from Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He served four years in the Wisconsin Senate and 14 years in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Biography Edwards was born in Lisbon, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He graduated from what is now Carroll University. Career Edwards was elected to the Senate in 1930. Previously, he had been a member of the Assembly from 1915 to 1923 and again from 1925 to 1929. Additionally, he was clerk of Sussex, Wisconsin, as well as chairman of the board of supervisors of Waukesha County Waukesha County () is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Wisconsin's 33rd Senate District
The 33rd Senate district of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin State Senate. Located in southeastern Wisconsin, the district comprises most of central Waukesha County. It includes the cities of Waukesha and Delafield. Current elected officials Chris Kapenga is the senator representing the 33rd district. He was first elected to the Senate in a 2015 special election. Wisconsin Senate
The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the larger Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Constitution ties the size of the State Senate to that of the Assembly, by limiting its size to no less than 1/4, nor more than 1/3, of the size of the Assembly. Currently, Wisconsin is divided into 33 Senate Districts (1/3 of the current Assembly membership of 99) apportioned throughout the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 33 senators. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. Carroll University
Carroll University is a private university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and located in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Established in 1846, Carroll was Wisconsin's first four-year institution of higher learning. History Prior to its establishment, what is now Carroll University was Prairieville Academy which was founded in 1841. Its charter—named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton, a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence—was passed into law by the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature on January 31, 1846.
