Willem Maré van der Merwe (20 July 1960 – 31 March 2025) was a South African people, South African orthopaedic surgeon and cricketer. van der Merwe was a professional cricketer in South Africa from 1978 to 1987, playing predominantly for Free State (cricket team), Orange Free State and Western Province cricket team (South Africa), Western Province. He later played first-class cricket in England for Oxford University Cricket Club, Oxford University and became a surgeon. He served as president of the ISAKOS - International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). Rustenburg (; , Afrikaans and Dutch language, Dutch: ''City of Rest'') is a town at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountain range. Rustenburg is the most populous city in North West (South African province), North West province, South Africa (549,575 in 2011 and 626,522 in the 2016 census).
