Wilfried Elmenreich
Wilfried Elmenreich (born 1973 in Fürstenfeld, Austria) is an Austrian researcher and professor of Smart Grids at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt. Biography Wilfried Elmenreich studied computer science at the Vienna University of Technology where he received his master's degree in 1998. He became a research and teaching assistant at the Institute of Computer Engineering at Vienna University of Technology in 1999. He received his doctoral degree with distinction on the topic of time-triggered sensor fusion in 2002. From 1999 to 2007 he was the chief developer of the time-triggered fieldbus protocol TTP/A and the Smart Transducer Interface standard. In 2003, he started the international Workshop on Intelligent Solutions in Embedded Systems (WISES), which has since taken place annually. Fürstenfeld
Fürstenfeld (; ) is a small historic city in Styria, Austria. It is situated near the border with Hungary, which is why the city was originally founded. The town has become quite famous in Austria and Germany because of the song by the same name by Styrian band S.T.S.. Fürstenfeld has a population of some 10,360 as of January 1st 2025. It was the centre of an eponymous district until the end of 2012, when it was merged with Hartberg to form the district of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld. Fürstenfeld was founded around 1170 as a defense against the Hungarians (the present Austrian state of Burgenland was part of Hungary until after World War I, so Fürstenfeld used to lie right on the border) and received its town charter in 1215. Organic Computing
Organic computing is computing that behaves and interacts with humans in an organic (model), organic manner. The term "organic" is used to describe the system's behavior, and does not imply that they are constructed from Organic matter, organic materials. It is based on the insight that we will soon be surrounded by large collections of autonomous robot, autonomous systems, which are equipped with sensors and actuators, aware of their environment, communicate freely, and organize themselves in order to perform the actions and services that seem to be required. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) refer to networks of spatially dispersed and dedicated sensors that monitor and record the physical conditions of the environment and forward the collected data to a central location. WSNs can measure environmental conditions such as temperature, sound, pollution levels, humidity and wind. These are similar to wireless ad hoc networks in the sense that they rely on wireless connectivity and spontaneous formation of networks so that sensor data can be transported wirelessly.
