Wilfred Abrahams
Wilfred Arthur Abrahams is a Barbadian politician, lawyer and current government minister in Barbados. He is the current Minister of Home Affairs and Information in Barbados. Early life and education Wilfred Abrahams was born in Christ Church East. He attended the St Giles Boys School. After his primary education he studied at the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill where he studied Law and obtained his BSc in Law. He also enrolled to the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago. Career After this education, Abrahams started his career as an attorney handling Civil Litigation and Commercial law at his firm. He served as the president of Barbadian Bar Association where he was the youngest elected president. He sits on the Board of Trustees of the Caribbean Court of Justice Trust Fund. Barbadians, more commonly known as Bajans (pronounced ), are people who are identified with the country of Barbados, by being citizens or their descendants in the Bajan diaspora. The connection may be residential, legal, historical or cultural. For most Bajans, several (or all) of those connections exist and are collectively the source of their identity. The Cabinet are individuals of Barbados which execute the duties of the Government of Barbados. Under a Parliamentary republic, these powers are vested nominally by the President of Barbados, but are exercised in practice by a Cabinet of Ministers, presided over by the Prime Minister of Barbados. The Prime Minister is formally appointed by the President: the President must appoint, as Prime Minister, someone who can control a majority of votes in the House of Assembly. In practice, this is normally the leader of the largest political party or coalition in the house. University of the West Indies at Cave Hill is a public research university in Cave Hill, Barbados. It is one of five general campuses in the University of the West Indies system. It was the third campus to be established by the UWI System, following the Mona campus in Jamaica and the St. Augustine campus in Trinidad and Tobago. The Hugh Wooding Law School (HWLS) is a law school in Trinidad and Tobago. History Named for Trinidad and Tobago jurist and politician Hugh Wooding, HWLS is one of three law schools empowered by the (Caribbean) Council of Legal Education to award Legal Education Certificates, along with the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica and the Eugene Dupuch Law School in the Bahamas. It opened its doors to students in September 1973. Mia "Ma" Amor Mottley, (born 1 October 1965) is a Barbadian politician and attorney who has served as the eighth prime minister of Barbados since 2018 and as Leader of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) since 2008. Mottley is the first woman to hold either position.
