Bluegrass Music
Bluegrass music is a genre of American roots music that developed in the 1940s in the Appalachian region of the United States. The genre derives its name from the band Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys. Like mainstream country music, it largely developed out of old-time string music, though in contrast, bluegrass is traditionally played exclusively on acoustic instruments and also has roots in traditional English, Scottish, and Irish ballads and dance tunes as well as in blues and jazz. James Kevin Salestrom (born February 20, 1956) is a Grammy Nominated American singer/songwriter. Salestrom was the lead singer of the band Timberline from 1971 to 1977. Jimmy Ibbotson
James Arvey Ibbotson (born January 21, 1947) is an American musician who is best known as a longtime member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. He has also released albums as a solo artist, as a member of the Wild Jimbos, and with John McEuen. Career In 1965, Ibbotson was a member of a folk trio known as The Wharf Rats, on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. During his time at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, in 1966, Ibbotson was a member of the band The Collegiates, playing drums and being the lead singer. The Collegiates became "The Sunshine Mission" in the fall of 1967, adopting a psychedelic look popular among many bands of that era. A member of SAE fraternity, he left college in 1968 and headed to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is an American country rock band formed in 1966. The group has existed in various forms since its founding in Long Beach, California. Between 1976 and 1981, the band performed and recorded as the Dirt Band. Constant members since the early times are singer-guitarist Jeff Hanna and drummer Jimmie Fadden. Multi-instrumentalist John McEuen was with the band from 1966 to 1986 and returned during 2001, staying 16 years, then departing again in November 2017.
