Whitford Development Scheme
Whitford (or Whitfords) is a metropolitan area north of Perth, that loosely comprises four suburbs: Hillarys, Kallaroo, Craigie and Padbury. Whitford is not in itself a 'suburb', though Hillarys, Kallaroo, Craigie and Padbury share the same postcode of 6025. Whitford was also the former electorate name of this area. The seat was renamed Hillarys at the 1996 election. The 'centre' of the Whitford area could be seen as the main road intersection of the east–west Whitfords Avenue (Route 83) and the north–south Marmion Avenue (Route 71). Many businesses and locations (shops, schools, churches etc.) in the surrounding suburbs use either 'Whitford' or 'Whitfords' in its name. Hillarys, Western Australia
Hillarys is a northern coastal suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, in the local government area of the City of Joondalup. It is part of the Whitfords precinct, and is located 21 km north-northwest of Perth's central business district via Mitchell Freeway and Hepburn Avenue. History Hillarys was named after an early settler, Bertram John Hillary (1895-1957), who had become blind in his right eye while fighting in Gallipoli during the First World War. He came to the area during the Great Depression while fishing for a living with his brother Harry, and built a boatshed on the beach in 1930. Subsequently, he expanded it to accommodate himself, his wife and four children. For many years, they were the only residents of what is now Hillarys, and the nearest store, at North Beach to the south, was a 5 km walk away. Craigie, Western Australia
Craigie is a northern suburb of Perth. Craigie was chosen as a suburb name in 1970 and honours an early councillor of the City of Wanneroo who did work in developing the City. Craigie is one of the four "Whitfords" suburbs that resulted from the State Government rezoning a large area of coastal land for development in 1969. The suburb once had a senior high school, Craigie Senior High School, which was opened in 1976 only to be closed again in 2003 following a decline in student enrolments. Students were shifted into Padbury Senior High School or Belridge Senior High School. Padbury itself closed in 2011. Padbury is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Joondalup. Its postcode is 6025. The suburb was named in 1971 after the notable Western Australian settler Walter Padbury. (A street in Padbury is also named after Walter Padbury, ''Walter Padbury Boulevard''.) Several locations in the north section of Padbury bordering Whitfords Avenue take on the name Whitfords. Whitfords Avenue is an arterial east–west road located in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. Route description Whitfords Avenue is allocated State Route 83 east of Marmion Avenue, and Tourist Drive 204 (Sunset Coast Tourist Drive) between West Coast Drive and Northshore Drive. Whitfords Railway Station
Whitfords railway station is a railway station located on the boundary of Padbury and Kingsley, suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It is on the Yanchep line, which is part of the Transperth commuter rail network. It is located in the median of the Mitchell Freeway, and consists of an elevated bus interchange on top of an island platform at ground level. South of Whitfords, trains run every 5 minutes during peak. North of Whitfords, trains run every 10 minutes during peak. Between peak during the day, trains run every 15 minutes.
