Whitexican
Whitexican is a pejorative term used in Mexico to refer to white-skinned Mexicans who usually have social and economic advantages, and who allegedly "are not aware of the prevailing system of inequalities in Mexico and believe that all Mexican citizens have the same opportunities." The term became popular on social media in the late 2010s. Since then, it has been the subject of interest among journalists and academics due to the discourses motivated by racial inequality in Mexico. Origin and use of the term According to ''Nexos'', the term emerged on Twitter at least in 2008. It was popularized in 2018 by posts from the Twitter account ''LosWhitexicans''. ''New Order'' () is a 2020 thriller art film. It takes place in a dystopian near future Mexico. It was written, directed, produced and edited by Michel Franco and is a French-Mexican co-production. The film had its world premiere on September 10, 2020 at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize. Shots of darker-skinned underclass attacking a lighter-skinned elite provoked a furious backlash on Mexican social media when its trailer was released because of its perceived racial stereotyping. The criticism towards the film continued after its premiere in theaters and still remained after its release in streaming. The film stars Naian González Norvind, Diego Boneta and Mónica Del Carmen. Reverse racism, sometimes referred to as reverse discrimination, is the concept that affirmative action and similar color-conscious programs for redressing racial inequality are forms of anti-white racism.
