Stuart Armstrong Walker (March 4, 1888 – March 13, 1941) was an American director and producer in theatre and motion pictures. Biography Stuart Walker was born March 4, 1888, in Augusta, Kentucky, the son of Cliff Stuart Walker and Matilda Taliaferro Armstrong Walker. After attending public school in Cincinnati and graduating from the University of Cincinnati, he went to work for David Belasco and made his debut as an actor in 1909. He became a play reader for Belasco, and directed plays including ''The Governor's Lady'' (1912). In 1914 Walker joined Jessie Bonstelle as a director in Detroit and Buffalo. In 1915, Walker organized the Portmanteau Theatre, an independent repertory theatre company. He produced seasons in Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dayton, Indianapolis, Louisville and New York City. Kent Taylor (born Louis William Weiss; May 11, 1906 – April 11, 1987) was an American actor of film and television. Taylor appeared in more than 110 films, the bulk of them B-movies in the 1930s and 1940s, although he also had roles in more prestigious studio releases, including '' Merrily We Go to Hell'' (1932), '' I'm No Angel'' (1933), '' Cradle Song'' (1933), '' Death Takes a Holiday'' (1934), ''Payment on Demand'' (1951), and ''Track the Man Down'' (1955). National Recovery Administration
The National Recovery Administration (NRA) was a prime agency established by U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) in 1933. The goal of the administration was to eliminate "cut throat competition" by bringing industry, labor, and government together to create codes of "fair practices" and Price controls, set prices. The NRA was created by the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) and allowed industries to get together and write "codes of fair competition". The codes intended both to help workers set minimum wages and maximum weekly hours, as well as minimum prices at which products could be sold. The NRA also had a two-year renewal charter and was set to expire in June 1935 if not renewed. The NRA, symbolized by the Blue Eagle, was popular with workers. Businesses that supported the NRA put the symbol in their shop windows and on their packages, though they did not always go along with the regulations entailed. Victor Wong (actor Born 1906)
Victor Wong (September 24, 1906 – April 7, 1972) was a Chinese American actor. While Wong appeared in numerous films through the 1930s and 1940s, they were largely small uncredited parts. His memorable role was as Charlie the Cook in the movies ''King Kong'' (1933) and '' Son of Kong'' (1933). Wong's most memorable scene came in the original film when he finds evidence that natives have kidnapped Ann Darrow. He yells, "All hands on deck! Everybody on deck!" This causes panic aboard ship which begins the quest for Ann's whereabouts. The Charlie character in the sequel was more prominent to the story and included significantly more screen time for Wong. The character has since been criticized for being a racist stereotype, particularly for his exclamation of "Crazy black man been here!". (23 April 1894 – 10 August 1970), also known as Tetsuo Komai, was a Japanese-born American actor, known for his minor roles in Hollywood films. Biography Born in Kumamoto, Kyushu, Komai had small parts in over 50 films from the 1920s until the mid 1960s. In his early films, Tetsu, who was usually called on to play Chinese characters, was often described with derogatory terms such as "Chinaman,". He played the villain in many of his films. Komai emigrated to the United States in December 1907, arriving at the Port of Seattle; he lived in Seattle for several years after this initial immigration. Noble Johnson (April 18, 1881 – January 9, 1978), later known as Mark Noble, was an American actor and film producer. He appeared in films such as '' The Mummy'' (1932), '' The Most Dangerous Game'' (1932), ''King Kong'' (1933) and '' Son of Kong'' (1933). He founded Lincoln Motion Picture Company. Marc Lawrence (born Max Goldsmith; February 17, 1910 – November 28, 2005) was an American character actor who specialized in underworld types. He has also been credited as F. A. Ethel Griffies (born Ethel Woods; 26 April 1878 – 9 September 1975) was a British actress. She is remembered for portraying the ornithology, ornithologist Mrs. Bundy in Alfred Hitchcock's classic ''The Birds (film), The Birds'' (1963). Claude Ewart King (15 January 1875 – 18 September 1941) was an English-born character actor and unionist, who appeared in American silent film. With his distinctive wavy hair, King appeared on both stage and screen. He served his country, Great Britain, in World War I in Field Artillery, reaching the rank of Major and surviving the war.
