WhistlePig
WhistlePig is a whiskey distillery based in Vermont. The distillery primarily makes rye whiskey, and is known for "ultra-premium" rye, a category it largely occupied alone in the early 21st century, when most rye sold for about $20 per bottle. WhistlePig dates to 2007, when entrepreneur Raj Bhakta purchased land for the WhistlePig distillery. The whiskey brand was launched in 2010, and its first product, its 10-year rye, was released in 2015. Property and operations WhistlePig's distillery is in Shoreham, Vermont. It is not open to the public. It has two pot stills, each in volume. The property includes a farm. The land was formerly a dairy farm, about 150 years old. Raj Bhakta
Raj Peter Bhakta (born 1975) is an American entrepreneur, spirits industry executive, real estate investor and former media and political personality. In 2004, Bhakta was a contestant on the second season of the reality show ''The Apprentice''. He is also the founder of WhistlePig whiskey, a premium whiskey company. In 2006, he campaigned for a seat in the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 13th district as a Republican, but lost to incumbent Democrat Allyson Schwartz. The groundhog (''Marmota monax''), also known as a woodchuck, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots. The groundhog is a lowland creature of North America; it is found through much of the Eastern United States, across Canada and into Alaska. David Steven Pickerell (August 14, 1956 – November 1, 2018) was an American distiller. He was considered the "Johnny Appleseed" or "founding father" of craft distilling. Early life and education Pickerell was born on August 14, 1956, in Fairborn, Ohio. His father, Richard Pickerell, was a postmaster. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point from 1974 to 1978, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. He played on the 1974 Army Cadets football team his freshman year. After graduating, he served 11 years in the United States Army. He received a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Louisville while in the army. Shoreham is a town in Addison County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,260 at the 2020 census. Geography Shoreham is located in western Addison County along the shore of Lake Champlain. Lapulapu or Lapu-Lapu (ᜎᜉ̰-ᜎᜉ̰), whose name was first recorded as Çilapulapu, was a datu (chief) of Mactan in the Visayas in the Philippines.
