While Paris Sleeps (1932 Film)
''While Paris Sleeps'' is a 1932 American pre-Code drama film directed by Allan Dwan and starring Victor McLaglen, Helen Mack and Rita La Roy. Plot Jacques Costaud, a French war veteran is sentenced to life in prison for killing a man but soon escapes from a penal colony in French Guiana. He then flees to Paris to find his daughter Manon, who believes him dead. Now he must try to keep her from being abducted into a life of prostitution and keeping his true identity a secret. Allan Dwan
Allan Dwan (born Joseph Aloysius Dwan; April 3, 1885 – December 28, 1981) was a pioneering Canadian-born American motion picture director, producer, and screenwriter. Early life Born Joseph Aloysius Dwan in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Dwan was the younger son of commercial traveler of woolen clothing Joseph Michael Dwan (1857–1917) and his wife Mary Jane Dwan (née Hunt). The family moved to the United States when he was seven years old on December 4, 1892, by ferry from Windsor to Detroit, according to his naturalization petition of August 1939. His elder brother, Leo Garnet Dwan (1883–1964), became a physician. Allan Dwan studied engineering at the University of Notre Dame and then worked for a lighting company in Chicago. He had a strong interest in the fledgling motion picture industry, and when Essanay Studios offered him the opportunity to become a scriptwriter, he took the job. William Bakewell
William Robertson Bakewell (May 2, 1908 – April 15, 1993) was an American actor. He achieved his greatest fame as one of the leading juvenile performers of the late 1920s and early 1930s. Early years Bakewell was a native of Los Angeles, where he attended the Harvard School for Boys and Page Military Academy. Career Bakewell began his film career as an extra in the silent movie ''Fighting Blood'' (1924) and appeared in some 170 films and television shows. He had supporting roles at the end of the silent era and reached the peak of his career around 1930. Arthur Stone (born Arthur Taylor Goetze; November 28, 1883 – September 4, 1940) was an American character actor of the late silent film, silent and early sound film eras. Biography Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 28, 1883, Stone entered the film industry by starring in several short film, film shorts for the Hal Roach Studios in 1924 and 1925. 1926 would see his first appearance in a feature film, ''Miss Nobody (1926 film), Miss Nobody'', directed by Lambert Hillyer and starring Walter Pidgeon. Edward Dillon ( or 1879 or 1882– July 11, 1933) was an American actor, film director, director and screenwriter of the silent film, silent era. Early and personal life Dillon was born in 1872, 1873, 1879 or 1882, in New York City. His brother John T. Dillon (actor), John T. Dillon was also an actor. He married Franc Dillon, Franc Newman in October 1914, and they divorced sometime before 1930. Newman kept her married name, Dillon. Paul Porcasi (1 January 1879 – 8 August 1946) was an Italian actor. He appeared in more than 140 films from 1917 to 1945. Biography Porcasi sang with the Metropolitan Opera. One of his early non-operatic productions was ''The Country Boy''.
