When Five Years Pass (play)
''So Let Five Years Pass'' (), also known as ''If Five Years Pass'' and ''When Five Years Have Passed'', is a play by the 20th-century Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca. It was written in 1931 (Trader Faulkner noted that the play was finished on 19 August 1931, five years to the day before Lorca was killed) but was not given a professional theatrical production until several years after Lorca's death, despite plans to stage it in 1936. It was produced in an English-language translation at the Provincetown Playhouse in New York in April 1945. It received its Spanish-language première in 1954 at the University of Puerto Rico, directed by Victoria Espinosa. In September 1978 it opened at the Teatro Eslava in Madrid.Edwards (1980, 93-94). Federico del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús García Lorca (5 June 1898 – 19 August 1936) was a Spanish poet, playwright, and theatre director. García Lorca achieved international recognition as an emblematic member of the Generation of '27, a group consisting mostly of poets who introduced the tenets of European movements (such as symbolism (arts), symbolism, futurism, and surrealism) into Spanish literature. Ronald "Trader" Faulkner (7 September 1927 – 14 April 2021) was an Australian actor, raconteur and flamenco dancer, best known for his work in the UK on the stage and television. Early life Faulkner was born in Manly, Australia, the son of inventor and actor John Faulkner and the Scottish ballerina Sheila Whytock, who had danced in Diaghilev's company in London and with Anna Pavlova in South America. The Provincetown Playhouse is a historic theatre at 133 MacDougal Street between West 3rd and 4th streets in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. It is named for the Provincetown Players, who converted the former stable and wine-bottling plant into a theater in 1918. The original Provincetown Players included George Cram Cook, Susan Glaspell, Eugene O'Neill, John Reed, Louise Bryant, Floyd Dell, Ida Rauh, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Djuna Barnes. Victoria Espinosa (March 26, 1922 – July 6, 2019) was a Puerto Rican theatre director and academic, who was Professor of Theatre at the University of Puerto Rico. Compared to other Puerto Rican theatre pioneers, such as Myrna Casas and Gilda Navarra, Espinosa directed over 120 plays during the course of her career, founded Puerto Rico Theatrón Theater Workshop and the Puerto Rico Actors' Association, and became known as "the 'grand dame' of Puerto Rican theatre".
