Wheelchair Curling At The 2022 Winter Paralympics
The wheelchair curling competition of the 2022 Winter Paralympics was held from 5 to 12 March 2022 at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre in Beijing, China. Medalists Qualification Qualification for the 2022 Paralympics was based on rankings in the 2019, 2020, and 2021 World Wheelchair Curling Championships. The qualification points are allotted based on the nations' final rankings at the World Championships. The points are distributed as shown in the table below. The eleven countries with the most points were to qualify for the Beijing Games, while the twelfth slot was reserved for the host country, China. Because the Chinese team placed within the top eleven point-scorers, the twelfth slot was given to the twelfth-ranked team, Estonia. Beijing National Aquatics Centre
The Water Cube (水立方), fully a.k.a. the National Aquatics Centre (), is a swimming center at the Olympic Green in Chaoyang, Beijing, China. The Water Cube was originally constructed to host the aquatics competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. During the 2008 Olympics—where it hosted diving, swimming and synchronized swimming events—25 world records were broken in this facility. In July 2010, a renovation of the facility was completed, which included the addition of a public water park. Yue Qingshuang (; born October 7, 1985, in Harbin, Heilongjiang; usually referred to in the media as Qingshuang Yue) is a People's Republic of China, Chinese curling, curler. She previously played second on the Chinese national team, skipped by Wang Bingyu. Currently as a coach, Yue guided the Chinese wheelchair curling team to gold medals at the 2018 Winter Paralympics and 2022 Winter Paralympics. Biography Yue played in her first international tournament at the 2002 Pacific Curling Championships. Yue skipped the Chinese team, despite having just curled for two years. Michael Lizmore (born November 7, 1987, in London, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Edmonton, Alberta. Career Juniors Lizmore, who is originally from London, Ontario won the 2007 Pepsi Ontario Junior Curling Championships playing vice for the Ryan Myler rink. Representing Ontario at the 2007 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, the team went 8–4, missing the playoffs. Men's career: Ontario After juniors, Lizmore joined the Mark Kean rink for one season before joining the Jake Higgs team in 2008 as lead. The team made it to the 2009 TSC Stores Tankard, the provincial men's championship for Ontario, where they finished in 4th place. The Russian Paralympic Committee () is the National Paralympic Committee representing Russia. History The Russian Paralympic Committee was founded in 1996. World Curling Federation
World Curling, formerly the World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990 to the WCF and then to World Curling in 2024. Collinda Joseph
Collinda Patricia Joseph (born May 15, 1965) is a Canadian wheelchair curler. She was part of Canada's bronze medal mixed team at the 2022 Winter Paralympics. Early life and education Joseph was born and raised in Ottawa. In 1983 at age 18, she was in a train accident in France which caused a spinal cord injury. Prior to her injury, she was a competitive diver. After her injury, Joseph explored adaptive sports such as wheelchair tennis, skiing, track and field, and, finally, wheelchair basketball. She attended Carleton University and then Algonquin College. Career Joseph played wheelchair basketball for 15 years. She has been involved in wheelchair curling since 2006. She first tried wheelchair curling at a RBC-sponsored “Give It A Go” event organized by her rehab clinic. She began being invited to national team training camps in 2012.
