"Whatever" is the first single by the American rock band Godsmack. Featured on the band's self-titled album, "Whatever" is one of Godsmack's most famous songs. The song first appeared on a promotional bonus CD that came with some copies of '' All Wound Up''. "Whatever" was the longest-running song on the US Active Rock top 10 chart, remaining there for 33 weeks. Godsmack received much exposure when a disc jockey at WAAF, a radio station in Massachusetts, started playing this song on his show. Godsmack is an American Rock music, rock band from Lawrence, Massachusetts, formed in 1995. The band is currently composed of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Sully Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill. Godsmack is an American Rock music, rock band founded in 1995 by singer Sully Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill. The band has released nine studio albums, one Extended play, EP, two Compilation albums, compilations, three Music video, video albums, and thirty-four Single (music), singles. Erna and Merrill recruited local friend and guitarist Lee Richards and drummer Tommy Stewart to complete the band's lineup. In 1996, Tony Rombola replaced Richards, as the band's guitarist. ''All Wound Up...'' is the debut album by American rock band Godsmack. It was released independently through the band's own record label, E. K. Records Company, in February 1997. The album was pressed four different times before being picked up by Republic Records/Universal Records in June 1998. It was slightly edited and remixed (with some unlicensed samples removed), fully remastered and given a new artwork and layout, and re-released by the major record labels as ''Godsmack'' in August 1998.'''' The band never considered this to be a demo release; they considered it the same release as ''Godsmack.'' Different editions According to the album's liner notes, frontman Sully Erna performed all of the drums on the album because the band's original drummer, Tommy Stewart, had departed before the recording session.
