What Matters Most (Ben Folds Album)
''What Matters Most'' is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Ben Folds. Released on June 2, 2023, by New West Records, it was preceded by ''So There'' in 2015. The album was announced on February 15, 2023, along with the release of the first single from the album, " Winslow Gardens". Folds toured the U.S. and Europe starting on March 24, 2023, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and ending on December 4, 2023, in Essen, Germany. In an interview Folds called his album his most "true" to date, saying "I come from the vinyl era, and this perhaps more than any record I've made is a true album. There's a very specific sequence and arc to each side, all building up to this almost surreal positive finale, and that structure was really important to me." In the same interview, he says "Sonically, lyrically, emotionally, I don't think it's an album I could have made at any other point in my career." Ben Folds
Benjamin Scott Folds (born September 12, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and composer, who is the first artistic advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., since May 2017. Folds was the frontman and pianist of the alternative rock trio Ben Folds Five from 1993 to 2000, and again in the early 2010s during their reunion. He has recorded a number of solo albums and performed live as a solo artist. He has also collaborated with musicians such as William Shatner, Regina Spektor, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and yMusic, and undertaken experimental songwriting projects with authors such as Nick Hornby and Neil Gaiman. The pedal steel guitar is a console-type of steel guitar with pedals and knee levers that change the pitch of certain strings to enable playing more varied and complex music than any previous steel guitar design. Like all steel guitars, it can play unlimited glissandi (sliding notes) and deep vibrati—characteristics it shares with the human voice. Pedal steel is most commonly associated with American country music and Hawaiian music. Tim Harrington has been the lead singer of New York indie rock band Les Savy Fav since they formed while together at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1995. He is notable for his energetic stage performances which often include multiple changes of clothing and performing in his underwear. Paul Wright is an American musician originally from Eugene, Oregon. His debut album, '' Fly Away'', was recorded in Oregon with Christopher Stevens and released in 2003. Tall Heights is an electrofolk duo based in Boston, USA. The group was formed in 2009 and consists of the singer/guitarist Tim Harrington and the singer/cellist Paul Wright.
